Hy Jeremy I want to thank you at this point. I passed the CCNA and that is mainly thanks to you! Even with the language, even though English is not my first language (i am from germany), I never had a problem following or understanding you, which is not always the case. No matter what other courses are out there, none compare to you, free or not. Also Neil Anderson you keep promoting even though he did a great job too. I would also like to note at this point that I am a career changer, actually I have been a physical therapist, but even for me you explained it so well that I passed the CCNA. Despite the fact that I have already passed the CCNA, I just bought your course as a thank you to support you a little. I will still continue to watch your videos and look forward to the announced CCNP track :) Thank you very much! Sorry for the long text, here is also no potato -.-

@@richardrodgersjr8296 Hi Richard, since Jeremy hasn't quite finished the course yet, this will only get you as far as he currently has the course. Neil Anderson is a good alternative. But even in his course not everything is covered 100%, in the CCNA are always individual questions that are asked, which are not even in the official documents. But with the mixture of Jeremy and Neil it should be enough to pass.

If anyone wants some more details on why "your ISP will drop the packet" Here they are; When you own/rent a public subnet from an ISP, that subnet is routed to only you. That's why the internet works, every continent has an organization who has a range of IP's, those IP's are redistributed to ISPs, and ISPs distribute them to customers, and make the public networks using routing. Private IP's are not routed anywhere over WAN because they are private IP's. Nobody owns them. Your ISP will drop the packet because the ISP's router doesn't have any routes for the private IP ranges. This explanation is also quite simplified, but i think you get the picture. To demonstrate this in these labs, Jeremy has just not added routes to the RFC1918 private ranges on the "ISP/Internet" routers.

Cisco really needs to address how inconsistent their CLI is. Maybe they should configure two versions of the interface, a review version aliased with a consistent naming convention and an unchanged legacy edition that'll never change but get slowly phased out.

Hi Jeremy! Thank you for your courses. I have multiple questions: - can a router run static nat and dynamic NAT or PAT at once? - can connected routers run NAT? Therefore creating a 2-level NAT - if so, do RIP/EIGRP/OSPF still work? Are the LSAs affected by the NAT? Thanks!
@JeremysITLab
@JeremysITLab 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! As for your first question, yes you can run multiple kinds of NAT at once on a router. For the second one, I'm not sure exactly what you're asking. A packet can be NAT'd twice, by one router and then by another, if that's what you're asking! Not sure about the third one, I think NAT could cause some problems but I've never tried it. RIP/EIGRP/OSPF are IGPs, used to share routes internally, whereas NAT is usually (but not exclusively, of course! )used for connections to external networks like the Internet. I'd have to try it.

Hello jeremy. I have a question that has been created from this lecture. Lets take as an example the diagram that you use to demonstrate NAT. In 192.168.0.167 we run a FTP server and on 192.168.0.168 we run a SSH server. Someone from the Internet tries to access one of those servers with 203.0.113.1:22/21. How the router can know where to translate the traffic to? Is there a specific concept that is used for this purpose? Thanks in advance.

You mentioned the packets from ip's which are denied by ACL are not dropped but are just not translated. So how do they actually contact the outside world? Do they communicate with their private IP without getting translated to public? like in the example lets say 192.168.0.167 (private IP) do not qualify for ACL and is not translated then does it advertise itself to the outer world as 192.x.x.x instead of public 203.x.x.x?

If an inside local ip address is not translated by the ACL and private ips can't go over the Internet, what actually happens to the packet if it's not dropped?

router is a layer 3 device how it is accessing the port numbers as it comes under tcp packet?
@JeremysITLab
@JeremysITLab 5 ай бұрын
Routers also encapsulate packets in layer-2 frames! Don't get too hung up on statements like 'a router is a layer 3 device' or 'a switch is a layer 2 device'. Devices function at multiple layers

Hello, is it possible to configure Nat Dynamic and Dynamic Pat on the same router at the same time?
@Heeby-Jeebies
@Heeby-Jeebies 8 ай бұрын
Your Network Address Translation configuration tells the router how to route and manage IPs. Having both Dynamic NAT and PAT at the same time is kind of like routing your mail two different ways at once, and wouldn't help you if you could. Considering how PAT has all of the functionality of Dynamic NAT and more, you'd be better served by just using that one protocol.

2:15 How is the packet destined for 100.0.0.1 routed to 203.0.113.1 ? How is 203.0.113.0/30 a matching route? Or does there have to be a static route to 100.0.0.1/32?
@Heeby-Jeebies
@Heeby-Jeebies 8 ай бұрын
100.0.0.1 is the assigned internal global IP address for the host. When the packet reaches the router, it leaves via the outside port which has the address of 203.0.113.1.

Sounds like a good use for an IPsec VPN. Try a google search, you'll find lots of resources about IPsec.

25:22 the packets will not be translated by R1, but will be forwarded ? using which public ip address ?
@JeremysITLab
@JeremysITLab 5 ай бұрын
They will be forwarded as-is using their private addresses. This means that the ISP will probably drop the packets

It was said that packets sent by addresses that are not in the pool will not be dropped. My question is what will happen to the packet?

Hi Jer you keep saying packets not allowed by the ACL will not be translated and not discard too. So what will happen to those packets? Just curious.
@JeremysITLab
@JeremysITLab 2 жыл бұрын
They will be forwarded as normal! They just won't be translated by NAT (which means they will be discarded by the ISP, if they are being sent over the Internet).

" Packets denied by the ACL will not be translated ", so in this case the device will not be able to communicate with the other device, and if so isn't it the same as dropping the packet ?
@JeremysITLab
@JeremysITLab 2 жыл бұрын
In this case yes the ISP's device will drop it. But don't confuse another device dropping a packet with 'packets denied by the ACL will be dropped', because that's not what's happening.

Sir, In Quiz 5, when ACL denies a subnet and packets from that subnet won't be neither discarded nor translated what would the router do with those packets??? If the packets couldn't be forwarded isn't it better that the packet be dropped??
@JeremysITLab
@JeremysITLab Жыл бұрын
The router will forward the packet. It doesn't know that the other router it's connected to (the Internet router) will drop the packet.
