I wish this video series was around when I was first learning networking. So many classes I have taken, in college and out of it, and books that I have read including the official book by Cisco, were taught by people who already think like a CCNP, where all these concepts have already clicked and are second nature, and that's how they taught the class. Topics were often presented in a vacuum without fully tying them into the related topics. They would never preempt questions that a first time student might have because they weren't thinking like a first time student. In your videos you teach topics by tying them into each other, you review things we already learned so that we can build upon it. You answer so many of our questions before we even have to ask, especially about discrepancies between what we learn, and what we see in outputs and commands. Your labs build upon skills learned earlier in the course which keeps them fresh and commits them to memory. Your flash cards will ask the same question multiple times in different ways to help information stick. I love how you address the ridiculousness of the naming conventions and acronym salads they use and how one word can mean many different things depending on context, like port. I have gone through CCNA materials many times but I am learning and having revelations about so many things because of your thoroughness and use of examples to prove a point. Thank you Jeremy, I am taking my 2nd attempt of the exam on 5/24 and I am super nervous, but this course is making me feel more prepared than ever.

Hey Jeremy, really enjoying your course. So far I've compiled some fairly decent study material and I thought I might share it with you (and anyone else reading this). I wouldn't mind if you added it to your course as extra study material or something. It mostly consists of screenshots I've taken of all the important slides from your videos, all labeled and sorted into folders (which is great for quickly reviewing a topic you covered without re-watching an entire video), there's an anki file which contains all of your cards up to now, all tagged appropriately (I also added some cards for the rest of the subnet prefix conversions), as well as some text documents with notes, and all the important labs up til now (with a few minor changes for quality of life). Also, thanks for making this course, it's pretty much the first one I stumbled across and I'm glad I didn't waste my time on some lesser course, with your methods (especially the flashcards) I was able to easily understand everything you covered and memorize it. So yeah you definitely earned that commission when I bought Boson ExSim ;P. Here's my notes: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1MNQ306bT3c6RzVb_rb88wPjA_8mu7Cca?usp=sharing

Found on google - Transparent transfer means the data forwarding device or module is unconscious and no need to care. In computer networks, data of lower layer is packed and sent through upper layer. You don’t need to know the packing process and the packing method, the data that should be transported is transferred as it is. If a module does forward data, in a way you not need to care, this is called transparent transfer.

Hi Jermey in day 3 you said that the session layer is responsible for establishing managing and terminating the connection. How that is connecting with the transport functions? thanks
@JeremysITLab
@JeremysITLab 3 жыл бұрын
In the OSI conceptual model there is a session layer that provides that function. However as I've said before modern networks are all built on the TCP/IP model, so the functions of the OSI model's upper layers are performed by the TCP/IP application and transport layers.

why does TFTP in UDP segment file transfer usually need reliability ?

Sir, can you suggest me a CCNA(201-300) study guide for new syllabus. I am already having CCNA(R&S) second edition by TODD LAMMLE.

Hi Jeremy, I don't see the link to flashcard deck download. Will you please put that link under the description for this video? Or, do we have to pay to be able to download the flashcards? Thank you

With the TCP sliding window. Is that limited by the MTU? Or would/could that alter the MTU?
@JeremysITLab
@JeremysITLab Жыл бұрын
They’re not related - TCP window size is how much data can be sent before requiring an acknowledgment from the receiver. It’s not related to the size of an individual segment/packet. However, there is the TCP MSS (maximum segment size), which is related to the MTU. It determines the maximum TCP payload size.

Are all these bit lengths of the IPv4 header, Ethernet header, and TCP all really on the test? It feels really strange that an entry level exam would have details like this.

It's interesting that tftp uses UDP: I wonder why it doesn't have to be reliable... I used it for flashing routers and access points with firmwares. There is no real "application" behind it, which would take care of the reliability issues.

Reliability is built into TFTP itself, I outline it a bit in the FTP/TFTP video of this course,

@@JeremysITLab Thank you very much for your quick reply ! OK, I'm going to wait till then. I'm looking forward to wireshark meanwhile: I wanted to flash a router with tftp, but somehow it's not working.
