I really do like the content. My biggest issue with the CCNA seemes to be that I have to memorize things like mac addresses and multicast addresses for so many different things. In the practical world you would look those things up when needed. This is my only issue with cisco really.
@Wetheuntitled
@Wetheuntitled Жыл бұрын
I completely agree. Makes no sense to have to memorize things that you can’t look up in an exam when you can look it up in the real world. Like if they want to include stuff like that. Then allow only a booklet or something to be brought it for that or something

Broooo...this might seem like a random comment but I want to state one of the main reasons why you're such a great teacher @17:25 When you started to explain HSRP with visuals, in my head I was like "ok I think I understand but the visual MAY confuse me more especially with the VLANS but I think I'll be able to understand better if you use different colors...PLEASE USE DIFFERENT COLORS...PLEASE USE DIFFERENT COLORS..." and then BAM! You use another color to bring in VLAN 2 and it helped to glue everything together. I think a lot of teachers don't understand that PICTURES and colors and moving arrows and packets (lmao) really HELP a lot of folks. People associate colors and pictures etc with kids and think its an insult to their intelligence to learn the way kids learn but idk for me how you just did that helps me sooo much. Thank you very much. Please continue teaching like this. Will be taking my CCNA soon and will then start on CCNP Hopefully this teaching style transfers over to the CCNP videos

Hello Jeremy, great quality video as always. There is just one thing I wanted to add in what you said, it is indeed possible to load balance in a single VLAN by using HSRP. This can be done by configuring multiple hsrp instances on the router interfaces. Half of the host having the Virtual IP of one instance and the other half using the Virtual IP of the second instance and by configuring the first router to act as active in the first instance and standby on the second instance and inversely for the second router. Thus loadbalancing the trafic across the routers.

i passed it on the 17th december 2022. in addition to Jeremy's playlist, i also watched certbros, David Bombal and Prof Messer. I also took plenty of simulated tests and did a buttload of labs on cisco packet tracer, besides also taking notes and making personalised summaries of everything and using the anki flashcards. it was relevant for my job back then. but now I work as a data analyst and the only parts that relate to my current position are the lessons at the very end, namely the ones that talk about json, xml, yaml, apis and postman. i still rewatch the videos and re-read my notes often, if anything for nostalgia's sake. it was an interesting journey, and I will always fondly remember every moment of it

To configure an HSRP virtual IP address, the command is: router(config-if)#standby [group-number] ip [ip-address] Note: If the group-number is not entered, then it will default to a group number of 0. The ip-address parameter does not necessarily need to be included when configuring all HSRP interfaces but it DOES need to be entered on at least one HSRP device. The other devices are able to learn the virtual IP address from this device. i.e R1 command would be R1(config-if)#standby [group-number] ip [ip-address] and R2 command can be R2(config-if)#standby [group-number] ip

Practically I find this specific concept a very "nieche" portion of the whole CCNA. Personally I would only "memorize" the IP addresses, and simply be able to recognize the mac addresses. From what I have gathered from others also support this. No need to learn every single nieche topic on the CCNA level, however if you are planning to go CCNP or beyond, one probably ought to learn this by heart.

Example: Primary router IP is 213.0.113.1 and failover router IP is 196.0.113.1 Looks like no one FHRP could do it. I crawled the web but couldn't find smthg working. Setting aside the "standby 1 preempt" command. Let's say we prioritized R1 with a priority of 200, and R2 with a priority of 50. However, we first configured R2, then R1. Which router will be the active router in this case. If R2 will be the active one as it is configured first, the question is what's the point of setting the priority then?

Hi Jeremy thank you for another great lesson. The last digits of virtual MAC address (all protocols) must always to be converted in hex correct? (in case from 0 to 9 are simply the same)

Yeah that's correct, MAC addresses are always written in hexadecimal so you'll have to convert to hex.

Hi Jeremy! I tried HSRP with 4331 routers on CPT. Even if there is no preemption, higher IP address owner router becomes active after shutting down and coming back online.

Hi Jeremy !! Thank you so much for your videos . I want to ask you a question that is not about this lesson but a question in general. What is Packet Switching ?

It's just a word for the process used to send data (in packets) through a network to a destination.

Here's a definition from Wikipedia: 'The routing and transferring of data by means of addressed packets so that a channel is occupied during the transmission of the packet only, and upon completion of the transmission the channel is made available for the transfer of other traffic'

Don't most modern OS support the option to configure a second default gateway in their interfaces? It seems like this would be sort of a moot point, but maybe it is more applicable to larger networks and more reliable in some way that isn't explained here.

Question: since the gratuitous ARP is broadcast, what happens when the PCs aren't in the same subnet? It would reach only the switches within the same subnet, but they won't go beyond that. How does it update the PCs then?
