It seems like when you need thin fine shavings you have to put a little more steps or time in. Like I work with several planes on the bench, some are more work horses (#5 1/2) and some are more show horses (#4). Same with chisels, have several sets and they get sharpened differently, some are work horses and some are show horses. The work horses just don't get the same love but in reality work hardest.
