I got this go kart from fellow youtuber harvey spooner for free about 2 months ago, and fixed all of its broken parts on the cheap.
now after we fix the throttle, brake and kill switch we take it out for some well deserved fun romping it.

I hope kids that actually have access to stuff like that realize how lucky they are. I would have died to be able to have that kind of fun as a kid, growing up in apartment buildings sucks big time.

Last weekend I went to my uncle's house to diagnose a 1 year old pressure washer that didn't start with probably 2 hours of runtime. Had so much confidence after watching these videos. I first smelled the gass and it smelled bad. I asked about the gas as it shouldn't go that bad in 1 year. He used some old gas that he had sitting in jugs for God knows how long. I pulled the carb and cleaned out everything using carburetor cleaner. I then pulled the tank and it had white chunks inside of it. I had to wash it with water and shake the hell out of it for quite a while. I also put water in the fuel hose and used an air compressor to unclog the tank. After it was all cleaned the machine ran like a champ.

The garbage fuel today starts to go bad in about 30 days especially if you get the cheapest gas you can find which usually has an added bonus of coming from the gas station pre-watered for you.
@dieselchevette
@dieselchevette 5 жыл бұрын
That's exactly right. The cheapest fuel in town is the old stuff at the bottom of the storage drums. That's where all the "good stuff" sits, like water.

The 10 percent ethanol fuel we currently see here in the states goes bad after 30 days of sitting on the shelf without stabilizer in it. And I'd never reuse a dirty fuel line , I change all my fuel lines in every machine every year at the start of the season as general maintenence as the ethanol starts breaking them down internally beginning to clog the jets and passages in the carb over time youll eventually need a carb rebuild. That's why I wouldn't have reused that cruddy fuel line. Also it's easier to clean a dirty gas tank with clean gas then with water. Fill it up let it sit a while, shake it furiously then dump it out, repeat this as many times as needed until your tank is flushed out completely , then install new fuel line new fuel filter and a new fuel shutoff valve that's the proper way to do it.

Ah man, my back hurts just watching all of that fun, and it takes me back to 1957 when my cousin's dad bought him one of those little monsters at an auction sale for some farmer who had failed and needed to sell out, probably because he was buying crap for his kids instead of for the farm. At any rate, it came with no motor, but being on a farm, there were motors laying all over the place, from the old Maytag washing machine motors to the stationary Wisconsin motor mounted on his dad's John Deer bailer. Well we looked around and found a 5 horse power motor that had served on the well back when his windmill quit working, but was now resting in a shed, after his dad climbed the tower and repaired the windmill. So it was, we mounted that motor on the go cart and got her running, the clutch came with the rig, so that was an easy fix, and before long, my cousin was riding her up and down the driveway at breakneck speeds, probably all of 20 miles per hour or so. Being only 7 at the time, all I could do was watch, which really pissed me off because my cousin was short as hell, and I was very tall for my age, I was taller then he by nearly 3 inches, yet he would not let me ride. Probably a good thing when I think back on it cause we never did get the brakes working right on the thing. He was over to my house a few days back, I am still taller then he is, now by over a foot and a few inches, but now, when he has breached the 70 year mark, and I shall shortly, hight no longer seems to mean quit as much as it did back then. Looks like great fun though, and I had to imagine if I had that little cart down in Arizona, what fun I could have with her in the desert on all the little trails that go back and forth in the Mojave.

Mustie i want to take a moment to personally thank you on behalf of all of us "gearheads" for all of the knowledge you share with us and the endless hours of quality content you have created for us! I have been a long time follower of yours and I always look forward to your next video. A little bit about me.....I am in cincinnati ohio and my grandfather owned a ford dealership so naturally I am a ford guy to the end...lol. by the way it broke my heart when you sold the mustang...lol. I grew up around cars and it was second nature to me. My father and I collect and restore classic fords. We have a 56 thunderbird, 64 Galaxie convertible, 69 Mach 1, 65 mustang fastback, 51 mercury chop top, and a 48 ford coupe we are currently making a rat rod with. We are also avid motorcycle riders and your videos on bike repair have been greatly valuable to my father and myself. I am a desert storm army combat veteran and I was stationed in germany for several years so I was able to spend my fair share of time around Volkswagen bugs and even got to own a couple so even though I don't have them anymore I always enjoy watching you work on them as it reminds me how fun of a car they actually are to work on. I would love to sometime be able to share some pics of our collection with you sometime and get your thoughts on them. Sorry for the lengthy rambling but just wanted you to know how much your efforts are enjoyed and appreciated by so many of us! Take care and I hope you actually get a moment to read this.
