The Brown family's situation occurs more often than many might appreciate. I pray their little girl is now alive and doing well. I believe the welfare programs, in all their manifestations and good intentions, have had many unintended consequences in the lives of African Americans.

I keep watching this series and every time it gets better even though there is no additional information to it. Economists like Milton Friedman and Thomas Sowel are what a country needs to flourish. I believe that is the reason such intellectuals have been intentionally shadowed and ignored by media’s and public education systems because the facts that they present can’t be objected by the self interest groups.

Watching the video tells us that fighting poverty or helping poor in this age is not an easy job and we have not yet developed an efficient strategy. Thanks for all those who made such a video available.

At 47:30 when the lady says people know how to use money to satisfy their needs and wants, she loses all credibility. If people knew how to do this, we would not have a poverty problem. I guess you would have to say that people knew how to wisely use money to satisfy their needs and wants. The reaction Thomas Sowell gives to her statement is priceless

And here I was thinking the system did the exact opposite and created wealth; it creates "inequities" in the sense that some people won't be as "poor"as they'd be as hunter gatherers. Poverty has no origin, it's the rule. Wealth is a bubble; an insulation from the cold, indiferent universe. Looking down on the downtrodden as if what they needed was a savior, and up towards the wealthy as they got there by taking finite wealth from others speaks more about one's ego than it does about societal problems at large

The opera singer is going to prove its importance. the piano player is going to prove its importance, the economist is going to prove its importance. I lost my voice when I found out a certificate, low end recruiter with Government certification is the one proving the engineers importance. So, thankfully, everything I say is backed by the system. So nothing new under the sun. Universities were the problem or Government telling the uneducated to vote, cause they will protect their rights. Whose rights are you protecting? Is poverty a choice? The child squeezed among adult voters who trying to say that he would really like to get a degree to fully fit in the society, now it happens that the stupid does not know that he is stupid, until someone grades him? Where are the graders if getting a degree is so expensive and Government would like the degree people to get hired. Perhaps Government should make the public education free of charge, so that no-one thinks of them as scammers. It is simply illogical! 2+2 is equal 4 everywhere in the world, and so there is nothing new under the sun! University professors came up with an excuse saying we do more within the measures of the time. How long does it take to learn a new language? Is this a university dependent or a person dependent? Person dependent! It took me a year to learn a new language. Today Ivy League universities promise an exposure some won't otherwise get, but when you get out of there, that exposure changes very quickly. Yes, get a good job and you won't see the dirty streets of Chicago and the poverty that it faces. Which one is healthier? Now you have Government officials who also received education in these Ivy League Universities that refuse to deal with reality that the poor have created with the conditions that the Government disregarded to consider as a problem. Lead poisoning is not a problem?

Is it me or are you American people really fond of socialism (in the form of social security)? xD whats this about refusing normal work based on the fact that one gets as much money doing nothing?! I don't get that. I would hate to get any financial support and would happily accept a job that payed less than social security just so I could feel good about myself and know I was actually doing something, instead of just cashing in on free checks. You lazy people. It is of course just a question of perspective and how you see things. I think its too easy for Milton to just blame the gov's good intentions (welfare), thats one very good intention, but what people do with it is something else, what of the abuse perpetrated by the very people getting these free moneys? Oh no, that wouldn't happen since our dear Milton here had an incredibly Rousseau'ian view of people, that they were apparently innocent and obviously influenced by their environment, that's too simplistic, he pretty much copy pasted Rousseau in saying "Good intentions are corrupted by bad means", in other words "good people corrupted by government", ironically he is the one who blames government for being patronizing to its citizens ... But I would agree with the rest he says.
