This just goes to show that parts from different brands can be used in some cases.

Remember this chassis well. Thorn in the UK, who had retail and rental chains in the 80s and 90s, had always used JVC and Akai for their house-brand VCRs - these were good machines generally and gave long service in the rental trade over the years. But they were expensive so they started offering these under their own label around 1993-4 for customers after something cheaper. I think they just got them in as disposable units, but they proved to be surprisingly robust and easy to service as compared to the other cheap stuff on the market of the time, predominantly from Orion and Funai. Goldstar at the time still had a reputation for being crap, unlike Samsung which were already starting to persuade a lot of people that they were a match for the budget-oriented Japanese companies like Sanyo and Sharp. But these weren't bad. The picture as I recall was awful though on these, very soft (although not noisy on cheap tapes as a result), like watching a machine from the early '80s.

I remember them as well, you could buy the ex-rental ones in batches and with a bit of tlc most of them worked for a few more years. Sharp also made some good decks that were robust and easy to service.

Wow a lot was wrong with it. So satisfying that you had everything you needed and now it's back in business.

Make the video as long as you want or need to, then everything is there. People can run at higher speed or skip some parts if they want. Videos where look I rebuilt the whole TV in 8 minutes aren't that useful.

Dave I think many viewers appreciate in detail repairs as I appreciate it. Also keep in mind that those people who likes shorter videos often does not have a deeper understanding of the function of those electronics.thus the overall viewing experience is more superficial. The more you understand things the more questions will arise 😅. And then it's nice if your video covers it anyway. Like your video so keep up.

Basic but well made decks that were far superior to the horrid plastic ones that replaced them. With some new belts and a service, they can give many years of use. There are still plenty of buyers for them with large collections of tapes, and like laserdisc players you can't buy new ones these days.

Great Work Dave, and as you would say {Fubar }on the those who whine and complain because they have no patients, And I like to add - This is your Channel- YES YOU! not them -not the ones who whine and carry on because they have no patience on how to learn properly, The work procedure stays the same to of which -They who want the answers quick -NA -AH Aint going to happen, THEY must learn the whole procedure or as a teacher would say in class GET OUT. You are a wonderful teacher So! Please!!! don't let the so called cheaters push and complain deter you from making a proper length video - As I say { you dont learn anything by cutting corners} OK We who want too learn -WANT to LEARN AND Fubar on the dimwits who want to act dumb and spoil it for the rest of us who like this kind of instruction. Best wishes My Friend - You Are the BEST!!!

When i say 30 min, those and shorter videos tend to generate more views and longer views overall which increases the ad rev per minute watched. It is a scientific algorithm that KZfaq uses. So unless something is really complex i try to aim for that 30 minute running time. Some will go over and some will be shorter but 30 min is the target. It is actually harder to edit a short video keeping everything required in and cutting unnecessary footage. It takes much more time to edit this way then just letting it play in real time.

Not too bad a machine, most of the final designs seem ok. The mode switch was no supprise, but the missing pinch roller was rude lol. Odd how the mode switch fails more often on later machines. I have never skipped bits of your videos, im here to watch a pro at work.

I like long videos, but when they are filled with ads I tend to not watch the whole video. Like to watch videos for information, but hate the ads and I'm not paying extra to watch videos without ads.

First, good job and yes my brightness is full on. So, my question is where did the original pinch roller go? It seems like it should have seen locked into place from the start. If it was missing for a while, what happened to it?

Hey dave i have same model i did clean mode switch and rechecking alignment and also follow this whole video but dont know whats wrong tape wont accept some times its accepted tape when i force but hard to eject very poor ans slowly what shoud i do my machine is barnd new 😢
@12voltvids5 ай бұрын
Well it's not brand new. It's 20 years old or close to it. Even if you just opened a sealed box it's not new. It's been sitting there for 20 years deteriorating. Switch contacts oxidate grease dries out, belts get slippery. Plastic gears shrink on their metal drive motor shafts and crack. Ifs it old it needs to come apart and be checked over.

Just starting the video now at exactly 1:23 in looking down into the unit. My overwhelming thought: It should be peoples' offense to put all those assorted parts together in such a way that it plays back tape, but does so only in mono. I get that parts cost money, but why not build a plane with one wing? heh heh
@12voltvids2 жыл бұрын
Not everyone wanted stereo. Back in the day there was a big price difference between mono and HiFi stereo.

I remember Gold Star in the 1980's & they made a lot of garbage. Patreon is blocked in our country & not paying for a VPN as it slows speeds & buffers & free VPN's been abused & not found one that works good.

@@drsysop it's still on KZfaq just a private video and the link is through the patreon site. Some sites may not do a copyright match however copyright is copyright. You post something that infringes on someone else's rights the site might not take it down and the a little letter arrives from the copyright lawyer and you are paying a big fine.

Here's another tip for you Dave, in that if you are getting tired of youtubes pushy attitude then, I just found out another platform called odysee.com where you might be able to sync all your vids over to there and get or at least have a back up platform and have less stress of copy strikes and all the rederic that you tube is starting to create trouble for great creators like yourself to deal with, give it a check out and see if that might be better for you.. We cant lose you to youtube...I happen to find this out from another gentleman who has a channel called Distro Tube and he was saying that quite a few content creators are getting tired of the attitude of this platform and have merged over to there and there is less stress and problems..As well as there are easier ways to get paid for your teachable time you so gallantly share ... Best wishes my friend you're the best.
@12voltvids2 жыл бұрын
There really is no other platform like KZfaq. Well there are but they don't pay. I'm a content creator basically under contract with KZfaq and they pay me for the content. There's all kinds of other sites out there but they don't pay and the ones that do don't pay anywhere near what KZfaq pays. I don't talk about how much you make on KZfaq I don't brag like some people but let's just say I can make a living off of it. I should add i don't get copy strikes. I get fraudsters making bogus claims and they are all resolved in my favor
