FreeCAD to Blender Import / Export Tutorial

Here is a FreeCAD and Blender tutorial, a very simple one, in which I show how to bring a FreeCAD model as mesh into Blender. I use the STL Importer addon to import the experted STL file, but we have to do some corrections like the scaling of the mesh and I also fix an issue with duplicated vertices in the mesh.

For anyone trying this and trying to get a cleaner looking mesh in blender, I would recommend trying to use the "limited dissolve" tool after the "merge by distance" tool mentioned in the video. Go into edit mode, press a to select everything if it's not already selected, press x to open the relevant menu, and select limited dissolve . Hope it helps :) .

I would suggest using Collada format. That way you can export dozens of bodies in one go. And the scale is correct.

Nice tutorial, thanks ! Btw, is there a way to import stl files to blender without getting those messy edges on the faces ? I would like to import my architecture models to blender in order to add textures and stuff but everytime the geometry gets messed up :/

Nice! Btw, for Edge Length to work I had to also enable Text Info (can't remember if it's on by default). And I often use Merge by Distance so I quickly press M and B. Or you can right-click on it to assign to Quick Favorites.

Thank you for your tutorial, I was trying to import FreeCAD with .dae file but unfortunately all of the name of my mesh in freeCAD are lost, same thing for the .stl file...

Those measurements in viewport overlays... what's the reference point for angle measurements? Is that N degrees from xyz axis and how would you tell which axis? Or is it N degrees from edge/face, and again how to tell which one?

You should check the sverchok add-on for blender, from what I can see on many tweets, it now brings solid and surface functionality to blender

when i try to export my 2d floor plan to dxf file ....its showing the shape is invalid ....please let me know why...

Yesterday I picked "Netgen > Very fine" and my computer was all but fine. Even with i7 9700k. So save your files people before doing the testing with mesh design.
