Refreshing indeed, but visitors must understand that what is cheap to them may be expensive to those earning South African rands. Our annual salary increases do not match the high inflation rates. The higher than ever exchange rates go a long way to make things even cheaper for visitors, but many locals have to tighten their belts...Not trying to be negative - just giving a realistic context for tourists. Please come and support our economy!

South Africans mistreat foreigners from other neighbouring countries a lot. Just a couple of days ago i saw a video of a driver being told to run away leaving his truck because he was allowed to drive it in South Africa. That can't happen in Zambia. I am not saying we did not have crime here but South Africa is on another level. We can't even forget xenophobia.

I'm a South African, currently working in Asia and you are so right about the cost of living. I compare everything and find that the cost of living in SA is sooo low compared to here. When people hear that we are from SA they get such a shock, firstly they cannot believe that SA has white people (lol) and secondly they assume that Africa is rural and don't realize how westernised South Africa really is 🙂 Despite everything that our country has been through, we really have warm and friendly people in South Africa. My husband and I always say how we miss just walking past a random stranger and getting a smile or greeting. Thanks for the video of our Beautiful country 🇿🇦 PS. Thank you for the amazing positive feedback on our beautiful country. Re: the face fonts/ gold teeth/ mouth decorations. This is a cultural thing from the Cape Flats in Cape Town that started in the 60’s. I don’t know if you guys are familiar with seeing certain people in Cape Town with their 4 front teeth missing. They did this to have various sets of dentures made with different decorations, some with one or two gold teeth or “rubies”,”emeralds” ect..so it’s a tradition that started from the 60’s and still going strong.

Good stuff, my brother. The opportunities in SA are endless, if you explore the country you will realize that everywhere in SA is similar. You can find someone in deep Eastern cape or kwazulu natal, who was born in that area and grew up there, educated there, got a job in the same area, built a house and buy a new car , still at his home village, what am trying to show you is that you can make it anywhere in SA, unlike our other African countries where everyone have to go to the big cities for opportunities . Myself who migrated to SA from Uganda now over 22 years ,i can tell you there's no country that was going to provide me the opportunity of making money and still being respected snd feeling at home, because in America or Europe as a black person you can make big money but still treated like trash, like you are nobody. The most important thing with SA is that it has the same level of freedom like USA, many of our African countries are ruled by dictators, South Africa is completely different, freedom of speech, African American should first look into the political landscape of the country, because you can invest into the country and then the war broke out and you lose everything, just like what's happening in sudan. Example 2, Many African Americans are going to Rwanda but the country is run by a dictator same with my home country Uganda and those countries are sitting on a time bomb . the other good thing about SA is that it is a big playing field. unlike some smaller countries where you can get bored quickly , during winter you can go to the warmer side of the country which is Durban, and you will find the mentality of the people completely different from any other African countries, and people party Monday to Sunday

Did you meet up with some Coloured people? I am a Coloured person, and unlike in the USA, in South Africa, Black & Coloured are considered two different cultures and race groups. Coloured people in SA are one of the most mixed-race cultures in the world. Our Coloured community, in particular, is known for its broad racial diversity. We have individuals who look, Black, Mixed, Asian, etc., but we all identify as Coloured, with a distinct culture of our own. If you trace our ancestry back, you'll find that we are descended from a mix of races like the Khoisan people and colonial powers that arrived in Southern Africa. Since then, we have developed a distinct identity, united not by physical appearance, but by our shared culture. There's a unique aspect of our culture that I personally love - despite our varied appearances, we are united by our Coloured identity. It's a glimpse of what the world might look like if racism didn't exist. Another interesting thing about Coloured people is that our culture is very similar to the African American culture. We love our jazz and soul music. American shows like "My Wife and Kids" resonate deeply with us, it's almost like watching a typical South African Coloured household in SA! Here are some good KZfaq links on Coloured culture in SA: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/namUpLl9kpadmaM.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mdhzoJim2bK4eWw.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hLWHg6eZqtixdGQ.html

It's a pity you haven't been to Cape Town and the lovely wine farms there. I would say the atmosphere there is more Europe like and spectacularly beautiful when you drive outside of Cape Town to the beautiful wine and olive farms. Also visit towns like Stellenbosch(wine farms) Knysna(with huge forests) Franschoek(wine) Paarl(wine) if you go to Cape Town. The stretches of beach and coastlines left and right side from Cape Town is also beautiful. On the West Coast in the Cape you will find small fishing villages where the fishing boats depart daily and you can buy the catch of the day when they return from the sea. The ocean in the Cape the water is cold, but where the Indian and Atlantic ocean meet for a warm swim i the ocean you need to go to Umhlanga or other Natal beaches. The Drakensberg mountains are also in Natal.

We've never had a problem with load shedding before hence electric stoves it is a challenging issue we are currently struggling with but there are project on the way by government and private sector are working hard to change the situation. It is the winter indeed, because of the altitude and also it is inland hence it is dry for your lips I'd suggest you use Zambuk it is very helpful. Provinces that are on the coastline like Durban for example has total different weather patterns the winter is not that cold, since it is by the Indian Ocean which is warm and humid

It was so interesting to hear your perspective on SA and on Joburg specifically, since that's my home. I was especially surprised to hear how comparable you say Joburg is to America. And yeah, the loadshedding is a pain, but the fact that someone built an app to help us figure out the schedule is a great example of finding humour in tough situations and good old SA entrepreneurs! I did laugh at your surprise that we have electric stoves, when we have so much loadshedding 😂 It does seem rather ridiculous when you put it like that.

Great content as usual guys. Joburg is situated almost 2km above sea level, that's why your skin and lips gets so dry, especially in winter. A lot of alcoholic beverages such as wine, beer, brandy whiskey, ciders, etc are produced in SA, that's why you see so much diversity in liquor stores. You are correct that there are so many business opportunities here and potential for business growth and expansion is great. I hope you guys get to explore more and wish you nothing but the best. Looking forward to your next video. Shalom.

I'm from South Africa and I have to say thank you for not only looking at the bad stuff that's going around. Although yes when it comes to the cops some of them can be corrupt and they are notorious for it but not all of them is like that and a lot of people in South Africa make a living from tourism and we rely on that to help our economy. So most of the people will leave tourists alone because we need them. Weed is also legal here BTW. This is one of the nicest reviews of South Africa that I've seen and thank you for that.

Thanks guys👏🏾 Central South Africa is very dry and much colder during autumn/winter. I grew up here and my skin suffers big time. You will find much milder and humid weather in the eastern coastal cities like Durban, in KwaZulu-Natal province, where it's more tropical like Florida in the US, they have more or less same temperature all year. All our provinces have their own weather patterns though, so for Johannesburg and Cape Town, you can expect to experience 4 seasons in a day sometimes😭 You've made some good points, especially on the chronic leaf. Honestly, nobody cares about that here 😂 We even have medicines and skincare products made from it. Hope you can make your way out into the inner cities and townships because I do feel that suburbs like Sandton are not representative of how most South Africans live, though SA is generally perceived as a middle income country. Groceries are also cheaper because you are using the US dollar which is currently +/- R18,30 to buy, so cost of living is much more expensive for locals. Have a great time with the crazy #loadshedding and Enjoy your stay!❤

My whole life in Jhb we could predict first rains (around 1 Sept) then afternoon showers until around Jan. I would say only the last few years do we get rain in Autumn/winter. It freaks me out for some reason. I do believe though that Jhb weather is the best in the country, we do not have the humidity of KZN or the icy windy Cape weather. Don't know much about the other provinces Weather though. Joburgers are blessed in that regard.

Welcome to South Africa. With regards to your comment on the use of electric stoves vs gas stoves : Looking at the current electricity situation in South Africa, it does look odd to have so many things dependent on electricity as opposed to other energy options. But then you have to realise that until the early 2000's ESKOM, the electricity supplier in South Africa was still efficient and electricity was fairly cheap. In fact, until the 90's ESKOM was by far the biggest electricity generator on the continent of Africa. The issue with electricty supply we call loadshedding is the result of corruption, misappropriation of funds, poor or no maintenance, tenderpreneurship. All of which was the byproduct of Stat Capture under our previous president.

Joburg has a very dry winter as you point out - with minimal rain - but Cape Town for example is a winter rainfall area. Thank you for this fair and favourable review of our beautiful South Africa! Loadshedding is extremely unfortunate and is holding back the country and constraining the GDP. It is a fairly recent phenomenon (it reared its head approx 15 years ago) hence the preponderance of electric stoves. There is currently a lot of focus on ending the electricity supply problems, e.g. for the first time in 2023, tax rebates on solar installations, and also the introduction of electricity surplus buy-back schemes.
