You should install a full steering wheel lock 🔐 They can just cut the steering wheel sides and pop off the tiny wheel lock.

For the normal steering wheel locks generally the steering wheel is easier to cut through than the lock, and anything with a lock can be picked. It's all about deterrent and hoping your vehicle looks more difficult than the effort required to break into it

This might sound like a daft idea but would it be possible to install removable metal screens that could be fixed over those easily “slide openable” windows? Something like a metal “bandit screen” - back in the days when I worked in a bank, we had metal screens that could be dropped down behind the fronts of the (allegedly) shatterproof bank cashier counter screens. Rigid Bolt catches could be fixed on the window frame surrounds and a metal screen could be attached with little locks on the screen to hold them securely in place. If someone was to even smash the van windows, it might take more of an effort to whack a metal screen away…. You would be able to park the van, then hopefully and quickly fix and lock the metal window screens into place When it was time to drive off, just remove them and put them away until the next comfort stop or bite to eat.

You can get plastic sticker inserts that stop the windows being broken, only issue with those that I've heard is that if you need to break a wi down to get out, makes it very difficult. The metal screens could work if they are retractable?

Brilliant system, and lovely guys that fitted it, I am going to give them a call, for now I believe my Remus blinds are the biggest defense against theft, thieves love to look inside, if you take that away from them and have anti-theft stickers on the windows and visible Security Cameras with obnoxious red lights then most will move on. Do not underestimate the fear of the unknown. Think how they think.......Are they inside the van? what security systems are installed? is the owner a lunatic, am I being recorded? are they watching me live through the camera? are they coming back any second? believe it or not thieves are the best risk analysists, and every top-level security system has been vetted by them, you just have to convince them the risk is more than the reward.

Are you sure that placing the 'spare' key inside the van is a good idea? How would you get to if you need to access it? How about a magnetic box containing the key hidden outside the van?

For the key unlocking the van itself, storing it outside is practical - with the hidden box and everything. For the bearlock key, that unlocks an internal lock, so storing the key inside is all the same. 👍

Many locks can be overcome by drilling through them. What about this one? If someone would drill through the spot where you put the key in? Would that let them actually move the the gear stick?

The locks are anti-drill, so drilling out the barrel will destroy the lock, but not unlock the shifter, and the mechanism is 5mm hardened steel 👍

I’ve put a quick release steering wheel on my defender so I can leave it with no steering wheel, easy to do as there’s no airbag on a defender. Also have a battery isolator. We never leave anything on show, ever.

Love that 😍. Our wheel has an airbag, so it's tricky on ours, but it's an elegant solution if possible

Looks great, but one thing… Maybe put some sort of label within the van, visible when you are sat in the driving seat, that says something like “This van is mechanically locked in gear and cannot be physically moved without disengaging the security system” Otherwise a thief might break the gearstick trying futilely to put it in gear?

The steering wheel lock they don't do the lock they just cut the steering wheel it take less than a minute

Interesting solution 😁 I wonder how it works if the van was towed?! Shame they don’t do Iveco daily’s.

Well the van would be in gear (in reverse) so they shouldn't be able to tow it forwards 😉 And they don't do Iveco daily... yet... call them and they'll start working on a prototype. They didn't have the crafter when we got in touch either.

Manual kill switches are an essential as well in our books and we firmly believe that a multi layered security setup is the best option

Um, personally, I would rather work on avoiding any confrontation than relying on weapons to defend myself. Also in such close quarters anything can be a weapon in a time of need.
