In terms of musical depth and instrument virtuosity, I believe no other group comes close to Mastodon, and especially Brann Dailor is incredible on the drums. He not only has mastered them and their essence in music, but also adds the much needed gentleness and fragile, vulnerable emotion with his vocals. The way Mastodon tackles trauma, pain, and their negative emotions to create music is, to me at least, unique and not something I find in any other genre, singer or musician.

Mastodon has always been in my top list of bands that I love to listen to just for the journey of having different leaders to get us through the songs. One thing that makes them stand out even more as a band is the fact that Brann can not only sing, but also in some tracks take the role of the lead instrument, making the whole band sound so much more dynamic.

I've been lucky enough to have been watching Brann play drums since 1993, long before he was in Mastodon, just playing small bars in Rochester, NY with his death metal band Lethargy. 31 years later and I'm still amazed by his playing and never get tired of watching him. I'm glad this video is finally up!

Brann is not only hilarious, but has an instantly recognizable drum sound that sets him apart from all other drummers. Blazing fast single stroke drum fills and patterns syncopated with the guitar riffs that often times creates the most beautiful controlled chaos you'd ever want to hear. As a singing drummer myself, when asked how do I sing and play at the same time, I simply say "The drumming is on auto pilot, muscle memory is doing it's thing, I'm just focusing on singing in key". Love the Dead Zone reference. Great movie, and Precious on the bass drum head...hilarious!

What poor soul had to transcribe all those fills? 😂 so stoked for this one. Brann's approach to the hi-hat was always so intriguing to me. He has this feel of pushing through the song that's so unique. One of my top 5 favorite bands. Josh Eppard next please!

SO stoked you did The Last Baron. The fill at 00:24:38 is my all time favourite Brann fill, can clearly remember the first time I heard when Crack the Skye as released. Starting before the end of one bar, the way he fills up the entire next bar, the kick drum/crash triplets at the end. So heavy, seemingly simple but so damn effective and awesome

There was a drummer who preceded Brann by a few years, his name was Reed Mullin (R.I.P.) who also ripped a lotta fills from outta nowhere for no reason but to rock. Reed played for COC and I feel like the man is unmentioned too often. Anyway, I love Brann and I love Drumeo. Seriously. DRUMEO has gotta be one of the biggest KZfaq success stories of all time.
