I don't think there is such a thing as a best drummer in the world. I think there are lots of great drummers, favorite drummers, famous drummers, etc. But "best" doesn't really work when you're dealing with something subjective like art. I can't scientifically tell you who is the best drummer in the world. - Jared Falk

Thank you. This statement is perfect. Some of us are minimalists, while others show off more. Art is subjective. The drum is our way of speaking. That personality behind the kit always comes out.

What I like about the intro to this is that he points out that it doesn't have to be perfect. It doesn't have to be exactly as John played it. I think that's important for a lot of new drummers out there, or anyone for that matter. I've been playing for 34 years and still struggle with this one and I'm okay with it. Thanks for a great lesson, Jared!

Though your points are valid, and in fact may be correct... part of me thinks Jared's remarks in the beginning were all huge disclaimers so the Reddit-energy-drink-and vaseline-fueled Bonham purists are still able to keep their diapers unsoiled for at least another 32 bars... b3for they of course find some technicality to make them feel better about never succeeding to any perceivable level.

It took me a couple of weeks to get this groove down. The thing about Bonham is that he would swing the time a lot...he was a very intuitive player. You did a great job playing it. I'm petty sure Bonham wasn't thinking trip, ple, let when he played it...lol. When I practiced it I didn't either. I just let it come out. The purdie shuffle is very addictive once you get it down. I wanted to play it in every song when I first figured it out.

So many amazing John Bonham grooves throughout the entire Zeppelin catalog. I am so grateful to have seen him play live ( 1977 Oakland Ca. I was 14 yrs. old, Zeppelin’s very last U.S. performance ever ) he was absolutely mesmerizing to watch. I’m also very grateful he was able to give the world 🌎 “Fool In The Rain” a beautiful example of John’s amazing feel and groove on the drums. Thank you John for inspiring myself & millions ( R.I.P.) thank you Jared for sharing your talent and videos .. ✌️

It's so great to analyze songs like this. I was listening to 'in my memory' by Christiano Parato, Scott Henderson and Lele Melotti and the opening drum intro immediately reminded me of fool the rain by Zeppelin. That again reminded me of Rosanna by Toto and the famous half time shuffle beat by the great Mastermind Purdie. Thanks for this brilliant drum lesson!

I love how confusing something can be to me at first but after studying the music and counting it out it just all falls in place. Every time I learn something it seems so easy after the fact but without the music written out it's much more difficult. I've been playing guitar for 16+ years and only 6 of that has been with a large focus on theory and written music(and in these past 6 years I've advanced more than in the prior ten cause I practice now more than I play). I'm glad I started drums with an understanding of music theory cause it has made learning drums much easier than my first 5 years of learning guitar by ear/poorly written tabs. Learning a few instruments has really helped me understand theory much better so I can apply it to any instrument.
@adamcolbertmusic

I can relate in my own way. I'm 39 and have been playing guitar for 29 years now. I played percussion in high school marching band, and I'm also proficient on piano, but I never actually learned the drum set. And lately I've been practicing on an electric drum set at the local music shop. I can do the utmost basics, but I'm not sure "what else to do", like what to attempt or strive for. But because of my extensive music training, I understand the theory, so now I'm looking up drum lessons and isolated drum tracks for inspiration.

To anyone who thinks Bonham had his bass drum head so loose is wrong. Every video I've seen where people are taking about bonzos drums has talked about how he tunes his drums tight like a big band drummer.
@shanesawyer5103
@shanesawyer5103 6 жыл бұрын
Wrong. Just the snare. Bonham played huge drums & huge cymbals, for a huge sound. He tuned the snare drum very tight (like Buddy Rich), the bass drum loose & the toms somewhere in the middle.
@mattlynch6358
@mattlynch6358 5 жыл бұрын
shane sawyer Nope, Daniel was right. All of his drums were tuned very high and thus very tight. His bass drum was sure as hell never “loose” and his toms were never “somewhere in the middle”. It may seem that his drums weren’t tuned very high because they were such large sizes (most of the time 26, 14, 16, 18) but in fact they were. If tuned low, they would sound thuddy and slappy. If you don’t believe me, check out johnbonhamdrums.com, Jeff Ocheltree’s tuning videos, and KZfaq channels Bonzology, Bonzoleum, and Kick it Like Bonham.

@@shanesawyer5103when you play heel up and don’t bury the beater there is a lot deeper tone, and his kick definitely sounds tuned a bit higher and played heel up, and not burying the beater. Try it

Love it! I've always been a closet drummer but I've started to play in front of people. Obviously this will still take me awhile to get it down almost perfect, but this helped me get the beat down! Thanks for this lesson, and keep drumming! :)
