Brings back so many memories. My family had recently moved from New Addington to West Croydon i was around 15-16 and didn’t know anyone in the area. As time passed i got to know the Gittens family and especially Trevor. He had taught himself how to play bass ( remember there was no internet) mainly by ear. I was fascinated and begged my parents to buy me a bass guitar. Trevor was a genius and soon he was teaching me songs like this along with music from Light if the world, atomsphere, the police, lynx, Michael Jackson etc etc. It was all a big melting pot good music was just good music to us. Those times where magical and looking back maybe the best days of my life. The Gittens family where very special and lots of teenagers would pass by regularly. Trevor was always getting the best records at the time and the uk acid jazz scene was exploding. Trevor had started to make a name for himself as a fantastic bassist and guitarist with an excellent ear. He was on the verge of doing great things and was working on a session with Odessey . Unfortunately Trevor passed away suddenly from a brain hemorrhage he was maybe 18. This devastated his family, his friends and myself. I think of him everyday and can honestly say i never had another friend like him even to today.
