FreeWell K2 Filters: www.indiegogo.com/projects/ve...
In this video I look at the filters I use to capture movies and extend the shutter speed of landscape images. I look at the two Quick Swap 67mm Neutral density filters I use on my 20, 35, 85 and 135 primes and also how I have adapted to use my my compact primes with 49mm filter threads. I then look at Freewell's new K2 magnetic filter system which uses 1-5 stop and 6 to 9 stop Variable ND filters. I look at the advantage s and disadvantages of using variable ND filters.

I have been using the Freewell magnetic quick swap system for a while. I am not sure if you are aware there is a back and front cap for those as well. I typically carry a stack of three filters with a front and back cap without a case. The filters are protected and it fits nice and compact in my bag. Some suggestions for Freewell 1) color your filters, 2) I use a lens hood so provide a way to remove the magnetic cap without pinching my finger along the hood. 3) provide magnetic step-up rings instead of the screw on type. 4) I use the UV screw on base instead of the ring most of the time, but it is not available in 72mm (Sony 20-70 and 70-200 F4 Macro G OSS II).

All good suggestions. I use a lens cap for the front but many will find the back cap is a great idea but very expensive ...for just a cap. I have a magnetic step up ring to go from 49mm to my Quick Swap 67mm filters. I avoid using the UV filters - it's just another piece of non- Sony glass that I don' want causing unnecessary flare or ghosting when shooting into the light. I won't be reviewing any more FreeWell filters until they act on my previous suggestions (over several years) to make 49mm and 55mm ND filters.

Thanks mark .. is there any filters you can recommend other than NISI for the 14mm f1.8 ? I prefer something that can be inserted through the back of the lens Because it’s lighter and easier to cary but the only thing I can find is Haida which require unscrewing some parts of lens and install their filter holder ( which I’ll not do ) .. other than that, Seems like there’ no many option .. I would appreciate it if you can recommend some

I am not aware of any rear-mounted filters that don’t require some unscrewing. Filter cages and square filters are really the only way to go in my opinion as I wouldn’t want to change a rear-mounted filter on a windswept beach.

@@AlphaCreativeSkills hmm I see .. I sold all of my old ND filters whic wasn’t good and now I’m looking to buy new filters for my 24-70 gm ii and the 14mm .. so as more versatile option since I don’t use ND a lot with 24-70 I’m thinking of buying the (( NiSi 100mm Filter Holder for Sony FE 14mm f/1.8 GM Lens )) .. which also can be used if I’m right with the 24-70 .. but wondering what square glass to get, best quality I can get .. I would appreciate your recommendations once more :) 🙏🏻

I'll pass on the K2, but you've sold me on Freewell Quick-Swap. I prefer ND over VND every time, and the K2 is too focsed on the latter. I considerd the NiSi Swift system, but again it was heavily focused on VND and you had to change the adapter ring if you didn't want VND. The Quick-Swap magnetic system also seems superior to the NiSi Swift friction sytem. NISi's V7 100mm filter pack system is still my favourite when I'm feeling "serious" about landscapes.

Great minds think alike - I also own NiSi's V6 filter system and much smaller M75 filter system which I can use on my smaller primes ...but when traveling light, just pack the FreeWell Quick Swap filters

So whats your take on the filters that install over the sensor, which enables you to use any lens?
@AlphaCreativeSkills
@AlphaCreativeSkills Жыл бұрын
I am not prepared to remove the lens on a windy day to install a filter over the sensor or behind the rear element of the lens. You also can't control a circular polarising filter or graduated filter if it is behind the lens.

Will you review the new ZV-E1 camera?
@AlphaCreativeSkills
@AlphaCreativeSkills Жыл бұрын
I have decided not to support the ZV cameras on my Patreon support channel (not CAMSET files or eBooks) but intend to make a video for my Patrons discussing general product development that we can see on this camera. Some of these features may make their way to hybrid or stills orientated cameras with later models that I will review.

to be honest! the best filter system i used was Haida M10, it casts no colors and easy to setup and use at glance! just an opinion tho i tried many different system but by the end of the day it is personal choice

What about color shift? I have 2 Lee filters and they are horrible when it comes to color shift. Granted, it is easy to correct in post but still, I find this annoying.

Yeah, better to spend a few pounds more.. Bought a Cheaper K&F ND filter.. £35.. and it was awful, anything longer than 10 seconds there a bouts lost loads of detail, edges became blurred and not sharp at all, ended up spending more money on a better filter and was happily amazed at the difference in detail..
