Freeze and Fuse with Pam Jacobson

Күн бұрынBelieve it or not you can freeze powdered glass frit and water, then put it in the kiln. It's called Freeze and Fuse and it's perfect for making glass embellishments. I didn't invent it, but let me show you how I do it.

I have not tried it with 96 COE glass so I can't tell you for sure if it would be the same schedule. Sorry!

I use pre fired beads in the center of my flowers.

Instead of water I use Glass tack pink. I find it to be more stable while the prices wait to get fired.

They are beautiful! So you do not thaw the flowers before getting them into the kiln?

I don't thaw them, but if they do thaw that's okay too. Just don't touch them after putting them on the kiln shelf if they are thawed because they will turn back into frit powder.

I’ve had good results sprinkling mica or enamels, just a tiny bit, in my FNF molds too!

For starters, what kiln would you suggest?

I started with a Jen Kiln kiln that has an interior measurement of 15". It uses standard electric current so no need to hire an electrician. It has been a great kiln with no problems. I have graduated to a much bigger Jen Kiln now but still use the small one for small projects.
