How do you fuse the bracket with the opening to your bird when the stake is too long to put in the kiln? 22:05
@pjsglasscreations35417 күн бұрын
I just use a little scrap of the stake in the kiln. Don't use your long stake because it will ruin the stake.

What are you using to mix the enamels? Water? If you don't mind, what are the ratios to powder.
@pjsglasscreations354Ай бұрын
I mix the enamel powder with a water based silk screen medium. I don’t know the exact ratio. I start with powder and gradually add a little of the medium at a time, stirring thoroughly each time, until it is kind of like the consistency of paste (not think like brownie batter, but slightly thinker than cake batter).

They are beautiful! So you do not thaw the flowers before getting them into the kiln?
@pjsglasscreations354Ай бұрын
I don't thaw them, but if they do thaw that's okay too. Just don't touch them after putting them on the kiln shelf if they are thawed because they will turn back into frit powder.
@markgallagher3252 ай бұрын
I love your videos. They are very informative. I do have a question about the freeze and fuse. Would it make sense to add methyl cellulose to the water to give a bit more adhesion to the frit to stay together and not be so brittle?
@pjsglasscreations354Ай бұрын
I've never tried it, but I also haven't really had a problem with the pieces being brittle either. The secret is to really compact the wet frit into the mold well and soak up as much surface water as possible. Let me know your results if you do try it. I'd be interested in knowing.

Pam thank you very much. If you have time, do you think the two part epoxy holds up better than e6000 under a hot sun? Living in Mexico I worry about the sun heating things up so much the glue might fail.
@pjsglasscreations3542 ай бұрын
I have heard that a 2 part epoxy works well but have not tried it. I live in Nevada where it can be up to 120º F on our hottest days and have not yet had a problem with E6000.

On a side note on the other bobble heads you placed kiln paper between where the wire is secured along the beard so the wire would not fuse to the beard. I assume you are still doing this or are you doing it without now?

Hi, Love this. I tried it but my petals did not form at 1500 degrees. Should I refire them at the same temp?
@pjsglasscreations3543 ай бұрын
I've never had a problem with them forming, but each kiln is different. Either go up 10º or fire for 10 minutes longer. At the top temp you can open your kiln without a chance of thermal shocking the glass, so take a quick peek to see if the petals are how you want them to be. If not, adjust accordingly.

Pam, I’m obsessed. How did you make the cute little fence please?
@pjsglasscreations3544 ай бұрын
I used white tekta and cut the pieces to make a 12" fence. I glued the pieces together and then dry brushed them with black enamel to get the wood grain. To dry brush you use a big brush, put a little enamel on it, blot most of it off on a paper towel, then very lightly and quickly brush over the fence pickets. Finally, tack fuse.

A grinder would cost at least $150 and a kiln is $1000 minimum. I would suggest taking a beginner fused glass class before attempting to make these garden stakes. I have The Grinder II and I have 2 kilns- both Jen Ken.
