My freeze dryer doesn't ship for another week due to me being in the middle of moving, but I received some accessories that I purchased today. My first impression is that the medium size is WAY smaller than it appears on camera. The trays seem so tiny. Granted all measurements are on the Harvest Right website so I'm not complaining at all, I received what I paid for. I also still wouldn't have purchased the large because I don't have the appropriate electrical outlet for that size. I'm just hoping this means the freeze dryer unit is also going to be much smaller than it appears on camera, that would be awesome :)

Yep, carrots loose a lot of their color when I've freeze dried them.

Anytime i have frozen carrots, they are usually kinda rubbery. How ever i made a pot roast with carrots and the works. I made a pot roast freezer meal and when i reheated it in the microwave the carrots were perfect. Maybe the carrots need to be fully cooked. I don't have a freeze dryer so I don't know how that would work.

You could have saved the bone broth to freeze or freeze dry to use for soup.

Were they bitter? I have only done big carrot slices and they were bitter. The only seasoning you did was garlic and onion powder in the broth you parboiled in?

I didn’t think they tasted bitter- I did salt, pepper, onion powder and my freeze dried garlic powder

@@DIYfreezedry in the broth, or sprinkled on after ? Don't forget to freeze dry onions for granulated onion too, also awesome. I've heard of using nutritional yeast sprinkled on for a "cheesy" flavor.

According to the Web, when freeze dried the enzymes in carrots are affected and the beta-carotene can change color. You don’t lose the beta-carotene, just the enzymes experience a chemical reaction when frozen and/or dried (it seemed to indicate dehydration causing the color change but the freezing had some thing involved as well). I won’t be trying the carrots, it sounds like the kids saw carrots and that’s what they tasted. I don’t see what the spices you used or chicken broth would have to make something have a cheese flavor without cheese flavor getting added, like some other comments have already suggested. When I saw the Short with the moose I thought it was funny. Hearing your reactions now, it’s not funny at all. The difference sounds can make!

That was the best scientific answer 👏👏👏 yeah my kids weren’t fooled 😂 but my veggie lover still liked them haha. I just added my spices to the boiling broth - I should have added more onto the carrots after I drained them. Others suggested cheese powder or something like that to add flavor which would have been good too! Haha my voice was a little screechy 😂😂 it was just shocking to see it fall right in front of us but glad it was ok!!
