In this video my cousin Jake and his boys come up to our house to process our moose from last fall. We also take a ride on the snowmachines and take the kids ice fishing

What a awesome family! I like how everyone is included in the meat processing. I love processing my game meat. I agree with the pork with the moose! Nothing better than a freezer full of moose burger!!

I used beef fat last yr and was not a fan. Pork fat is the only way to go in my opinion especially for the pre made burger Pattie’s it helps to keep from drying out if it gets over cooked

That vacuum chamber is sweet. I’ve been using a food saver for years. It works well but takes longer versus the chamber. I need get one. Thanks for sharing.

I've had the good fortune to harvest 5 moose in Newfoundland over the past dozen years or so but was never able to process it myself (which I can do). They all would have benefited from hanging time. But the situation was you take it to a processor and you pick up your meat. My last one was a huge bull (not by Alaskas standards) and I'll be honest the young bulls taste better

I’ve learned it’s just easier to grind the pork fat in as I grind my wild game. Hand full of deer meat then a piece or two of pork fat

Well done. Greetings from a bow hunter in South Africa. Providing food for your family. I wish the vegan soy folks would be sent to you for boot camp. Processing every bit of what you harvest is a lesson for humanity. One question though. It is so cold outside, why the coolers?

Awesome video how long can you leave full quarters and ribs in the freezer without getting freezer burn? Also it’s fine to freeze thaw process and freeze again? Was thinking of trying this thanks!
@diyalaskanlifestyle
@diyalaskanlifestyle Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure how long it would last froze but I’d imagine it could be froze a long time because you are trimming the outside anyways and that’s where the freezer burn would be.

@@diyalaskanlifestyle I wouldn’t need it in there long just long enough till I have time to process. The thaw process and freeze again is fine? I’ve heard mixed review from people saying meat should never be thawed and frozen again unless cooked first.

@@truenorthstrongoutdooradve6989 I do this every year and I know other people that do it also. I also am to busy in the fall to process the meat so I wait until winter. I do know if you kill a moose in the winter you want to keep it from freezing to fast it doesn’t allow for some process to happen to the meat so people will wrap the meat in the hide to slow the freeze down

I can’t remember how many days we let it hang, but I don’t have a fridge so I let hang as long as Mother Nature allows it started getting warmer in the afternoons so had to throw it in the freezer

I just got done watching your video and I really enjoyed it the only thing that I have a comment on is the storing of meat and black trash bags is not a real safe thing to do because they say they chemicals from the black trash bags will get into the meat that is per USDA.. but other than that I love your videos I watch every one of them that was the only comment that I have you might actually want to Google that and it will specifically tell you that it is not safe to do that just trying to look out for my friends in Alaska that's all thanks for the great videos and great content really enjoying your friend Dan from PA

@diyalaskanlifestyle Жыл бұрын
I’ll have to look into this, I started out using layers of visqueen and spruce bows between the meat. If you don’t have something between them it is a solid frozen freezer and almost impossible to get out.
