8524 FREIBURG CATHEDRAL - Part I - Diane Bish was the first American woman to record in the great Gothic cathedral of Freiburg, Germany, where four magnificent organs are played from one console for an incredible musical feast. Music includes: Karg-Elert "Now Thank We All Our God," Handel "Hornpipe and Air" from Water Music, Bach "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring," Clarke "Trumpet Voluntary," and Widor "Allegro" from Symphony 5.

Although still stunning, it's about time for remastering. The video in particular is showing its age.

And quite some musical selections too! Could hardly pick much better. She puts so much raw emotion into performances.

I hope but doubt you'll see this but you playing Anglican music in the Catholic church where my great greeat grandparents were married before they had to emigrate to the U.S. in 1874 when my great grandfather was 2 years old combines both sides of my German families. The torture they went through in the decision to leave was taught even to me.(b1958)

This is the first episode of JOM I ever saw on television, sometime in 1989. It may still be my favorite, as Freiburg Cathedral is one of the most grand places on earth and how can you miss pairing it with the artistry Diane brings.

Wonder when this was recorded. The 4 digit post codes indicate that it must have been before 1993. Guess in the early 80s.

This is Program 8524: in series order, this means 1985 program 24. In that time, Diane produced 26 programs per year. The raw tape might have been from anytime in the year prior to release. (I worked for JOM in the early 90s.)
