Freight dispatch has been an industry longer than 5 yrs. I considered starting it 15 yrs ago. With that being said, I do personally feel it is on borrowed time. Because, as technology/automation (such as smart hop for example) becomes widely used - I feel the need to hire dispatchers will become obsolete, or, put a hurt on an already saturated market.

I am thinking of helping my sister start a dispatching company while I start a brokerage. I'm still not understanding with the recent changes whether or not it's legal to dispatch for multiple carriers? Also, assuming I start a licensed/legit brokerage/authority, is there any reason I could not have a division that does dispatching?

It is if you have your contract and paperwork. Nothing really changed for people who operated legally.

@@sd_pjwal yes, it seems like what it is is like say you have two box trucks in Georgia, that’s going to be a problem because they are competing for the same Lowe’s, they do not want dispatchers to do that. But if you have one that started in Georgia and one that started in Florida, it’s OK. They aren’t just supposed to overlap.
