As a translator and teacher of French as a Second Language who also speaks German and Spanish, I must say that I thoroughly enjoy your clips. However, on this one, I need to explain that if we say "son heure" and not "sa heure", it's not because the word is suddenly masculine; it is because the word "heure" starts with a vowel sound because of the silent h (we are obsessed with words starting with vowel sound, I grant you that) so we use the masculine possessive adjective for l'euphonie (the way language sounds). We do this with all feminine words starting with vowels/vowel sounds: son amie, son auto, son arrivée, etc. However, if there is another word in between that does start with a consonant, we revert to using the feminine form of the possessive adjective: sa meilleure amie, sa nouvelle auto, sa dernière heure... Thanks for coming to my TED Talk ;)

Agua (water in Spanish) is always feminine, but words starting with 'a' or 'ha' are never introduced by "la", but by "el" instead. E.g: EL hAcha rojA (the red axe), EL Agua limpiA (the clean water), but in plural you'd see LAS hAchas rojAS and LAS Aguas limpiAS (although the plural in "agua" is always poetical and adds no meaning).

@@MrsWheezer It's only in the first case the article for words singular maskulin. In the second case, it's female singular or plural, in the third case only female singular. It's makes sense because of three genders and four cases, we would have different 12 articles otherwise. I mean, I agree that the idea of articles depending of random defined genders of words makes bot much sense but the using of different articles for different cases are extremely important because German doesn't limit the possible orders of the sentence building blocks. Means "Der Hund aß das Fleisch." and "Das Fleisch aß der Hund." means both that the dog ate the meat while "Den Hund aß das Fleisch." and "Das Fleisch aß den Hund." mean that the meat ate the dog.

The switching between el and la isn‘t actually that rare in Spanish. Agua is always feminine but, because you can‘t have two consecutive stressed a‘s, as in lA Agua, the “la” becomes “el”. The same happens for words like hambre or asma.

Agua is a feminine word in Spanish, but when it's singular, we use the masculine article so that there isn't two vowels that merge into one, thus causing you to say "lagua" Same thing happens with the word "águila"

And its the same reason for the french case with hour, it is "une heure", but when it is possessive it becomes "mon heure" instead of "ma heure" in order to be able make the phonetic liaison between the N at the end of "mon" and the phonetic sound "œ" at the start of "heure" (if we say "mon heure" with a pause between the two words, what you will hear is "mon neur"

For gendered etc words, I just went with whatever came out my mouth/pen first. If I couldn't remember verb endings, I just slapped on an 'r' or an '-'. Still got a C (I took the foundation exam, so that was top marks). Also, I didn't learn the difference of 'their' or 'there' for an eternity, and learned the French alphabet before the English.

Italian also has words that change gender depending on number these words usually have a second plural form of the original gender with a different shade of meaning. for example "bone" is masculine but "bones" is feminine. but if you mean lots of separate bones (so not like "the bones in your body" that are something you see as a whole but "the bones you give the dog" which are many but taken singularly) then it's masculine again. also also there are some words where the feminine plural form and the masculine singular are exactly the same. and words that are only feminine or only masculine but if you follow the rules to change the gender you get another word that has nothing to do with the first one.
