The name of that pistol was "MAC 50" (Manufacture d'Armes de Châtellerault, modèle 1950). It shares its ammunitions (9mm Parabellum) with the submachine gun "MAT 49".

Technically yes, for that specific pistol owned by Larry Vickers it's MAC 50, however the system is still supposed to be called "PA modèle 1950", regardless of a MAC or MAS production

That last shot is sick :) Just came back from a week training Krav Maga at the French Foreign Legion and discovered that similarly to the FAMAS they call their side arm the PAMAS where the F stands for Fusil and P for Pistolet, but the one they used was the Beretta 92.

Used to shoot it regularly and intensively for years, hawful reliability due to some munition lots or magazine. For shooting, we also limited the magazine to 8 rounds, to avoid to much tension on the magazine spring that caused some issues. Very good for practicing incident drills though. Also found with MAS (Manufacture d'armes de Saint-Étienne) instead of MAC on the slide. On your model, the screws for the grips are not original, as the regular army version will be fitted with with screws with single slot (not Hex).

Google traduction: The MAC 50 is an excellent memory. A very robust and reliable weapon that I used for ten years (army and gendarmerie). I don't remember that it was stopped once; it was rustic and we had complete confidence in her. Its defect, if I may say so, was the fact that it had to be armed before firing, its operation prevented ammunition from being chambered during movement in service. Other than that; it was simple but perfect for its time.

I’ve had that gun in duty in the french army ( mid 80’s to mid 90’s ) . It’s only defect is that it was always losing it’s plastic grip’s screws when shooting and we had a whole box of those screws in the armory . We used to put some loctite on them to avoid that problem . Your grip screws are not the original ones .

When i was Rocket Launcher anti-tank (LRAC F1) in the French army in Germany in 1998 , i also had one of these on my side + a Famas !!! A little dated as a handgun , but still very tough and reliable .. During the Viet-Nam war Viet-Congs were using some of these captured on French soldiers during the Indochina war in the 50's .
@Briselance

Dated? Meh. It's only dated when spare parts are not made anymore by the original maker in any substantial quantity. It's only a pistol, not some hyper-tehcnological tool like, say, a plane or a submarine. Besides, what's so different between the Beretta, widely used since its release in 1976, and the MAC-50?

This guy really does fire anything , better than both of my STAR super B and BKM. Great video ! Just a little information : in France, we don't call it M1950, as you would call your famous Colt M1911, but we simply call it MAC 50. MAC means Manufactures d'Armes de Châtellerault (Chatellerault Weapon Factory, Chatellerault is the French city where it is produced) . This gun was produced for French army and a part French police. It's not used anymore by the police, but still in service in army, even if progressively replaced by the PAMAS (a sort of Berretta 92) and, recently, Glock

MAC 50 or PA 50 (pistolet automatique) in army parlance. I shot it during my military service. I have seen it carried in a condition, which I believe is neither 1, 2 nor 3: mag in, chamber empty, hammer cocked. That way, when you rake the slide, you don't have to counter the rather strong hammer spring. Not sure if this was official army carry rules.

The French Army were so weird about condition three, for so long. It's not hard to make a reliable safety mechanism, but they were so bloody minded in their insistence that for ALL FIREARMS the only safe way to carry them was with the action closed on an empty chamber. I mean I see the value of having an empty chamber as a possible safe condition of a firearm, but to have it as the only option is very tedious. Condition three is great if you have many infantry who are disproportionately nervous to the true threat level. Like if they're on guard duty in peacetime, it's really handy to have their rifle in condition three as they're most likely to be provoked by people who aren't any genuine threat OR they have their service rifle snatched off them and immediately used against them. But there's also going to be situations where they need to respond much much quicker yet the entire time the weapon must be in a safe state where rough handling or any unintended pressure on the trigger won't lead to it firing. And then after shooting very quickly going back to a safe state without having to eject a live round and juggle magazines to try to get it back to condition three.

M'rick Sarrep they still need to think of something that is better than an AR-15 though. I know that the HK416 is like the best assault rifle as from now but, they kinda need to improve it a little bit. For now, MAS is kinda still stuck with lever-action rifles and bolt-actions. The FAMAS is fun but I don't like full-auto firearms that shoot faster than 950 RPM, since it just wastes bullets even faster and a very fast fire rate is kinda pointless though

i just realized that you add in CGI bullets after filming, based on the fact that the bullet was a mere 15 feet away from the gun when the slide hit its stopping point. have to say, thats incredible work for all this time because i've seen all of your videos and just noticed now. either way, love the slow mo vids, keep it up.

I don't know how they determined that a slide mounted safety was better.
