I like that you don't tell the whole story just a synopsis also you cover the cinematography and the score and the over all feel of the film well done.

I recommend the Sicilian clan with both Ventura and Gabin.

I'd agree that Speaking of Murder (bad title and not a translation of the French one, "The Red Light is On" which won't make sense to those outside the culture) is less good than the other two, but I like it more than you did. The first two movies are so good that they make the set a definite must-have.

Elevator to the Gallows is very good but the two best French noirs I've seen are Bob The Gambler and Shoot the Piano Player. Have not seen almost all you reviewed so my French noir expertise is lacking.

Thanks for your comment. I have Bob The Gambler and need to watch it. I haven’t seen that Truffaut film, but my next episode is coincidentally on another one of his.

@@thekazdoyclosetwithjerryka1013 The Melville is French New Wave before the New Wave existed. Marvelously atmospheric cinematography. Of course Melville is considered the father of the new wave and this film shows why. STPP is one of my 13 all time favorite films. Some might argue it's not really a noir, but like Breathless, it IS a noir IMO. New takes on noir by 2 great French filmmakers.
