People use machines more now because modern laquers are so hard, you will be there all day

The old polishers I worked with used their hands for the finale buff but also a tiny bit of acid.

Yes, the acid technique was popular with piano finishers.

I’m struggling to find a product for final buffing, I’ve seen people using car polish, any recommendations outside of what you mention here? Also, using oil just for lubrication? I’m on day 3 of polishing my guitar (day 5 if you count sealer coats) and I’ve easily done 100 coats and used roughly 6 ounces of 2lb cut (out of the 8 ounces I made) and I’ve yet to encounter any stickiness that I can’t overcome. Should I just skip using oil so I don’t have to go through the process of removing it? Or does the oil provide a benefit outside of lubrication for movement of the pad

There are 2 oils that I use: olive oil for lubrication and walnut oil as a drying agent. You will want to clear them. As to stickiness do you mean that you get no stickiness without using oil or that you get no stickiness with the oil you use? Once you get a sticky point that you have to fix you will be happy to use a drop or two of olive oil - at least I am.

@@expatluthierinthephilippin6441 I mean There’s no stickiness that I’ve encountered that warrants using oil in (at least yet, I’m on day 4) I’m wondering if I skip the oil if I can skip the 7 days after spiriting off for the oil to evaporate off / come to the surface

I'm guessing you mean diatomaceous earth.
