What do you do to get the clouds out or do you leave them in the finish.

You can do either. Once the shellac is harder, you can rub it out with something to bring out a bright polish. The nice thing with a french polish is if you've given it a second go and the pore shrink is gone, the bright polishing is almost effortless and very quick. It does look nice even just left as-is, though. It looks more human (plus a guitar with a thin french polish is almost always going to be stronger and clearer sounding unless someone is really a master of very thin hard curing finishes).

Pretty guitar. But can you imagine what would have made this video 10x better? An explanation of WTF you're using there, what you're doing and why. Just a thought, but WTF do I know.

Exactly - and do you know what would have made this video 10x better than 10x better? Not having the instrumental version of that f***ing awful Glen Maderos piece of sh*t playing in the background!

He had a 'wax' pad to which he added shellac and then alcohol and finally topped off with paraffin oil . . .

Is there a video when he finishes this? Because there’s more work needed here that you can clearly see at the showing stage at the end.

Buon giorno. Potevate mettere la ricetta dei prodotti e che tipo di tampone sta usando e come farlo. Il video serve a poco a mio parere se non possiamo imparare qualcosa anche noi.

Beautiful set of Brazilian Rw.........It' a shame that the neck heel really wasn't carved a more proportionally traditional shape, rather than triangularly shaped at the heel cap.

Not everyone wants their guitar to look plain, ordinary, and dull....... like a Martin.

Martin's are actually not nylon stringed, traditional "Classical Guitars". Their "Traditions" are a bit different anyway...... They're "Steel Stringed" & Acoustic but not (usually) Classical Guitars. The instrument being finished is a Classical Guitar & it's obviously not a "factory made" guitar. Why not to try to make it look like more like a "Hand Crafted" Instrument. (Now, most Martin's & other SS guitars do seem to follow a plain "cookie cutter" design pattern that doesn't look much different from "factory made" Guitars

Guess he keeping his ingredients to himself. Like the way he palm burnishes. That is really tricky and the shellac has to be exactly at the right tack for that to work. too tacky, it smears. To dry, it has no effect. But it came out like glass so whatever he is using it is working. I have problems getting the dilution right. Sometimes it goes on great. Other times it leaves streaks or lines. Fortunately most of the time it burnishes out.

chuckyz2 he should’ve used a spirit rubber not his hand. If he’d used a spirit rubber it would’ve brought all the oil out and left a much better finish than is on there at the end of this video.

Aspe Guitars I love your results with French polish. I build electric guitars (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bshdrJB5q9WUZ5c.html) and really am interested in starting to offer a shellac based finish to my clients. Have some experience with it, but I must admit that your results are better than my tests so far. I think the conversion finishes are not that "modern" anymore, since they are quite bad for our planet, while shellac has some very nice qualities for musical instruments. Would you think it will be an adequate choice also for electric guitars and basses?
