I have to clarify since many people ask about territories like New Caledonia or Saint Pierre and Miquelon, that in the video I only used those that have the status of French overseas departments, and the territories that I didn't include do not have that status

Guyana and Martinique are not exactly departments. They are overseas departement-regions with a unique and specific territorial assembly. Guadeloupe is a mono-departmental region. Same for la Réunion. Mayotte is a department that posesses some regional competences, and share some with la Réunion.

the french government decided to fuse regions To save money, so we end up with very large regions but which no longer represent much like the "Grand-Est" with Alsace (german stereotyped territory), Lorraine (known to have been the scene of many battles during the 1st World War) and Champagne-Ardennes (known for the champagne and the Ardennes forest) 3 really different regions
@simsportif
@simsportif 10 ай бұрын
They should have named the region "Lotharingie" and skipped the polls, at least it would have linked this new region to some roots. But noo, lets put a poll where some rando that know nothing about the region they inhabit can decide which crappy name to shove into this new entity. Thankfully, some new regions have had moments of clarity and chosen some historically relevent names like Occitanie, Nouvelle Aquitaine (sorta).

Same kinda goes with Nouvelle-Aquitaine as well. As a kid, I only knew Aquitaine (Gironde, Landes, Pyrenees, Atlantiques / Pays Basque / Bearn, Dordogne, Lot-en-Garonne) but they decided to include Poitou-Charentes and Limousin Regions to form Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Those three regions have distinct regional identities, especially with Aquitaine region with their Bordeaux Wine, sandy beaches and Basque culture. I've never been to Poitou or Limousin before though.

As a former french from PACA that def left france to come living in western Algeria, I can ensure this is factually true, especially near Nice city (more than near Marseille at the opposite of what people are believing). Cause in Marseille, there is clear places and hours to avoid, while in Nice you can just get randomly attacked or stabbed for no reason (that's why I left btw)
@Gol3a
@Gol3a 6 ай бұрын
@@danax6653 The country is pretty devellopped and makes everything to promote entrepreneurship. The local farmer can easly become very rich if his buisness works well. At the same time, the governement discharge people of debts if their buisness don't works as intended the first years. On the cultural side, western algerians (I only speak for them because I only know them), are incredibly well educated and respectful. Even on the road, they drive better than north-west Italians (from Liguria) or south-east france. The most shoking difference with france remains the security and the relationship between people and authority. Policemens and gendarmes aren't a hated social class like in france : they are a part of the people, and they just do their job. Algeria is highly militarized (because eh, it's the army that's control the country, it's not a democracy), which is a legacy of the war against terrorists in 1990. So you basically have a police barrage every 10 km on the road. No corruption. No abuse. No disrespect. Just don't do drugs nor weapons trafficking, and all you'll get from them is a smile and a "Mar7babik fi bladik" (welcome to your country). Consequently to this high presence of authority, there is no insecurity (atleast, where I live). Kids play outside, no ghetto, no open drugs trafficking, no tags nor wastes lying on the ground, no manifestation with stealing, breaking public goods, no people/police shooting at each other (like in some part of france..). In france, in the backland of Nice city, someone tried to kill my mom on the road. 3 guys also assaulted my brother during the day on the center of the city, and I've already been threatened of being beheaded by italians immigrant when I was a kid (cause I physically looks like a tunisian). So I kinda feel the security as the most precious gain from this choice of leaving france. At the difference of other parts of Maghreb, Kittens in the streets are well fed and often come door to door to seeks food or water, and as a cat lover I'm in paradise lol Of course there is also problems in here : urbanisme is still a mess, administration is always a big hassle to deal with and for westerners, alot of cultural aspects may be hard to understand, such as the way of counting money, the different vision of personal space, the awayness of barrier between people (they all behave like we're all brothers from the same family which can be disturbing for an individualistic person used to live in a cold neighborhood in france like me). Plus all the insecurity I've described isn't away : it's just hidden somewhere else (Sahara, isolated mountains, or places where criminals hide, far from civilization), because it's a huge country and it's physically impossible to control everything. There is also this conflict with the Moroccan kingdom which tear my hearth because I grew up surrounded by Moroccans in france, and they are like brothers. For westerners, the country may also be hard to support because of the awayness of "speech freedom". I came here to grow a farm and make a bright future for my kiddo's, not to give my opinion about the gov, the president, the weather, or the amount of salt in the sea. Henceforth I never had any problem ; but to most of the natives french which loves to take a part of the day to criticize this or that, it may be a problem. Wep, to sum up it may sounds idealistic, or even surrealistic, but life is really great in here. I hope I'll be burried next to this people and that my kids could remains living their best life as I do, in here.
