Upgrading the skylight to a MaxxFan Deluxe roof vent with remote control 10 speed fan in our Elddis CV20 Campervan. I also install the compatible Maxxshade Plus Blind with LED lighting.
I fitted the 400x400 Clear/Tint MaxxFan Deluxe with Remote Control (7500) as that fit my roof opening and matched my requirements.
The price can vary so it’s worth shopping around.

Thanks for sharing David, now I know how to feed the cable in the roof this one is on my list. By the way, the back vent in our 21 cv20 started leaking whilst in the Netherlands recently. Fixed it by scraping all the excess black non setting mastic from around the collar you removed and re sealed it with white 522. That’s where the water was getting in and I’ve noticed on the other vents the black non setting mastic is becoming more liquid so I’ll be giving them the same treatment even though they aren’t leaking……….yet. All the best, Mike & Heather 👍🇮🇲

Thanks Mike & Heather, was yours leaking between the roof part and the frame as that’s where mine seemed to be / pleased it’s. It leaking now and wish I had just used white but hey ho 😀 Pleased you sorted it All the very best, David 👍

The bottom plastic base attached to the roof is sound, the sealant around it is firm. Ours leaked through the part you removed and I’ve noticed on our other vents the non setting black stuff has become way more liquid over the last year or so. The back vent is sound now but I’ll be doing the same repair to the other vents even though they aren’t leaking yet. That’ll be scraping all the excess black stuff from the joints, cleaning them and then beading with white 522 which is what they should have used in the first place me thinks 🙄

Well done David you have done a great job there and I think it’s a good upgrade from standard as you say ventilation is critical to get air circulation and remove odours and pollutants

Nice install and very effective demo regards the air movement with the smoke machine👍. Silicone is a knack - you could always used masking tape on the van roof etc for a clean straight edge - done miles of sealant over the years working in construction so like most things practice helps.

Hi Tim, it’s one of those things I wasn’t looking forward to doing (the siliconing and removal part specifically) and was so worried about making sure I didn’t have another leak, in hindsight the masking tape would have been a great idea. If I did it again, you get the lessons of this time too. Imagine once you have a the back like most things it will be much easier - all the best, David 👍

Its something van conversions should give as an option as i think they are a brilliant idea, certainly cheaper than roof mounted A/C, ok, maybe not as good, but still a brilliant option. White mastic would of been better, (IMO) but is on the roof and no one sees it 🙂 The control panel would be a good option for it as well, one for next time then. Electric upgrade, now that will be interesting, you ditching the engine and putting in TESLA engine 🙂 Great informative tech video as ever mate 🙂

Thank you - hope you’re feeling better? Haha you never know do you :) think we need some bigger battery capacity before that haha - yes, good compromise between roof a/c and much lighter weight too! thanks again, all the very best, David 👍

Thanks for that David, we’ve been considering one. I’d like to know how good the blind is please? Is it silver backed & does it bleed any light? Thanks, Em 💜
@LeisureBit
@LeisureBit Ай бұрын
Hi Em, thank you - the blind seems to be ok, it is silver backed and when closed you get very little light in, the only bit you seem to get a bit of light bleed is where the frame connects to the ceiling and a tiny bit through the vents. Hope that helps, all the best, David 👍

I take it the next van is some time away then 🙂 Any reason you went with the 522 vs a mastic strip ?
@LeisureBit
@LeisureBit 29 күн бұрын
The new van is not ordered yet as still looking and deciding, I always wanted to try out a MaxxFan and needed to resolve the leak so thought I would cover both. The only reason for the 522 was it's what I had, I should have purchased Mastic but the fan came sooner than expected and thought I would crack on - in the future would definitely used mastic strip or equivalent and just finish with silicon. All the best, David 👍
