@shan2un8 жыл бұрын
This dude is the prime example of the quote, "those who can't, teach." He totally lacks the patience in any of his videos when attempting to teach or instruct. On that note, he, in the modern metal era is one of the most prolific song writers. His riffs are insanely complex, yet sound simple enough to be catchy. A great addition to any metal guitarists arsenal of influences. True brilliance going on here... you know, aside from the instructional portion.
@mccarty8 жыл бұрын
+shan2on same as Zakk Wylde I guess, although he's getting better. On the other hand, guys like Paul Gilbert and Mark Tremont are great at teaching
@thedriverman12178 жыл бұрын
It's because he doesn't like metal.
@marekvodicka6 жыл бұрын
Sry to be an ass especially to a 2 year old comment, but I think the quote actually means the opposite. It's meant to tell that "those who aren't successful enough in their craft, teach the craft". So he's actually the opposite. He CAN (play guitar like a fkin master) but he can't teach very well (because he lacks the patience).

+Lorenzo Orfino We're ATLiens. We first met in 1996 when we both served at Fellini's Pizza in Candler Park (a little neighborhood in intown Atlanta). We bonded on our love for guitars, pitchers of beer, good times; and the fact that we we're very busy, focused young musicians in our early 20's. We would listen to each others CDs at work, and then go two blocks to my place (or his rehearsal space) and jam. Everyone in our age group who's part of the original rock scene knows him because our town is smaller than one would think, and he's a great guy to hang with. We still keep in contact when we can. As a matter of fact, I still have a set the prototypes of his Hammerclaw guitar pickups that I still haven't installed in the past two years (gonna get off my ass and do it soon though).

@Tony784327 жыл бұрын
I'm trying the learn this song off the DVD, both the solo in the Hal Leonard Crack the Skye songbook and the tabs/video on the Fret12 DVD aren't exact to the recording. Brent even adds a section in the video that isn't in the studio recording of Oblivion. It makes the solo really tricky to learn. I guess I'll just have to use my ears in addition to the tabs. The extra part of the solo he plays in this video lesson is really cool for working on hybrid picking though. I pretty much have the song nailed, just need to work out the solo.
@jw00dman7 жыл бұрын
How's your progress on the song? You're right; Brent improvs a good bit. In the "Making of Crack the Skye" DVD, he says "Here's how I write guitar solos: I don't!" He says that he just improvs a solo to the song being played to him and if he likes it, he keeps it. There were a couple solos for Oblivion before he played the one that made the cut. It's great to learn his solos, but I also think it encourages you to improv as well, just playing whatever you're feeling.

It makes me feel better knowing that even as he's playing the repetitive shit just practicing by himself, ie the verse, that even he too kind of slips up from time to time. You notice it more when playing by yourself, remember that, if this was live with himself and his 3 bandmates rocking the fuck out nobody would notice the imperfections.
@Irohen2 жыл бұрын
It's ok to make mistakes.
@voteZDLR2 жыл бұрын
@@Irohen Another example of a guitarist I idolize is Thomas Erak from The Fall of Troy and his stuff is unbelievably technical and very difficult to play. His music as a whole may not be palatable to most and it might be dismissed as "screamo" but really it's post-Hardcore but nobody can deny his chops. His stuff is so unusual and technically difficult that he arguably invented his own style of playing. And in some of the videos he posted after the band broke up for a little while where he basically just plays through the guitar parts with no drums or bass or anything, he actually makes mistakes playing his own stuff here and there. All while in his prime he plays the stuff live and manages to sing and scream at the same time. It's insane. But if you watch some of his live stuff he actually is a much sloppier live player but to be fair I couldn't do it and take on lead vocal duty at the same time, either. It helps put things in perspective, even our heroes make mistakes from time to time.
