Frictions :-
Friction is the force resisting the relative motion of solid surfaces, fluid layers, and material elements sliding against each other. When surfaces in contact move relative to each other, the friction between the two surfaces converts kinetic energy into thermal energy (that is, it converts work to heat). This property can have dramatic consequences, as illustrated by the use of friction created by rubbing pieces of wood together to start a fire.
The frictional force is that force responsible for wear and tear of two bodies. When two bodies in contact, move relative to each other then there exists a force which has a tendency to oppose that movement which is called frictional force. There are in general 4 different types of friction. Static friction, Kinetic friction, Rolling friction and Fluid friction. Static friction comes into play when a body is forced to move along a surface but movement does not start. Kinetic friction comes into play when a body just starts moving along a surface. When external applied force is sufficient to move a body along a surface then the force which opposes this motion is called as kinetic frictional force. Rolling frictional force is a force that slows down the motion of a rolling object. When a body moves in a fluid or in air then there exists a resistive force which slows down the motion of the body, known as fluid frictional force.
This video explains how to study the relationship between force of limiting friction and normal reaction and to find the co-efficient of friction between a block and a horizontal surface.
