My take on the lore: I think Mario actually didn’t die, and he somehow escaped the painting and ran out the mansion as quickly as he can. He then found Luigi in a depressed state, mumbling about how he failed Mario and blamed himself about his death. Mario then comforts Luigi and they have a nice music session together.

Only way I can see this actually happening is if IHY Mario somehow/accidentally crosses over to Beta Luigi’s world, may not be his Luigi but I can imagine Mario would comfort any version of his brother he’d see cry

After Alone in Mario’s Madness, Luigi already know that he lost his brother. But until, a stranger hold Luigi’s shoulder. And for Luigi’s surprise when he turn around, he saw Mario is alive

Man. This is actually accurate. This gameover screen never existed in the first place. it was a trailer for luigi's mansion to get people interested. The timer was just for the peoples turn in the beta. Mario wasn't even in a painting. he was meant to be a playable character explaining the 2 player mode and the mario model in the files.
