Enjoy your March reading. Ruth Rendell is a great mystery writer. I read Daphne DuMaurier's Jamaica Inn with the FOMO Book Club last year and really liked it.

I read Jamaica Inn last year, I enjoyed that one too but I slightly prefer this and Rebecca.

Oh, I started Shogun many years ago and I've been dying to try it again! You should host a readathon or a read-along!!!

I should do one day. I hardly ever take part in them as generally I like reading one book at a time, I've already read the first 150 pages of Shogun haha, I'm not good at putting things down 😂It's fun so far!

READ SHOGUN!!! You will not regret it! And it reads really fast for its size! I really need to get to more Du Maurier - I’ve read 2 (but still haven’t gotten to Rebecca or MCR 😅).

I have started Shogun and I was going to read 35 pages a day but I've accidentally read 150 already 😂 Definitely a page turner.

I just finished Rebecca this morning and really enjoyed it. It was such a well told story in terms òf tense build ups, that when I got to the end, it made me want to read the beginning again. I hope to try out another one of her books as well! I haven’t heard of Elizabeth George before, but sounds like she’s really good. Hope you enjoy everything you get to in March!

I'm glad you liked Rebecca. She's so good at atmosphere, and always seems to jump straight into it. I've been to Cornwall a couple of times and it's lovely, so it's odd how dark she makes it. I camped near the house Maderlay is based on last year. There's a good Hitchcock film of it too.

The 4.50 From Paddington is one of my all time favourite Agatha Christies so I would recommend that over the Pale Horse, although I did enjoy that for being a bit batty. Cadfael is also one of my all time favourite historical mystery series. I've read quite a lot of Becky Chambers now, I like her Wayfarer series and To Be Taught if Fortunate was excellent too. One of the few Daphne du Mauriers I haven't read is My Cousin Rachel. As we seem to have rather similar tastes in books I'll try to get to that asap. I have a few mysteries I would like to get to this month, Murder Must Advertise by Dorothy L. Sayers, A Death in the Parish by Richard Coles and book 2 in a new series I've just discovered, Silent Creed by Alex Kava. Not sure about Mammoths... two I want to read this year are Our Mutual Friend by Dickens and The Count of Monte Cristo, two real door-stops. We'll see.

Glad to hear you like Cadfael, I don't see that mentioned much on here. I love Sayers but haven't read that one. Coles and Cava I've not read either. I've never got on with Dickens, so we differ there at least😄 . I started Count of Monte Cristo once and the beginning is thrilling but I got distracted by something half way through and never went back.

I read my cousin Rachel probably over 10 years ago and I can't remember too much about it. I absolutely loved Rebecca. Jo loves vanity fair! March has turned into tbr madness - the Irish readathon, middle grade march, women's prize, as well as those that you said!! 🤯 I really need to finish the three books I've carried over from Feb and get started on March plans 😊

I have got a Welsh book from the library, and someone gave me an Irish book so I could tick off two more events now. I'm already knee deep in Shogun so I think Vanity Fair will have to wait.

@@YourTrueShelf yeah there was a famous mini series of it in the 1980s, I've had it for years. It's a real page turner but I am doubting it's historical accuracy

I finished My Cousin Rachel about two weeks ago, and I loved it. Agree with your comments. I'd give it 4/5 but also prefer Rebecca. Also, I'd recommend 4.50 from Paddington over The Pale Horse. It's a classic, and Marple rules. I'm going with Pat Barker's The Regeneration Trilogy as my Mammoth, slightly cheating maybe, but it is in an omnibus edition with 912 pages. Loving it so far. Good luck with your March tbr.

So many choices! I tried reading Shogun a few years ago and didn’t get through it but I want to try again. I agree with your thoughts on My Cousin Rachel and Rebecca because I could not stand Philip. I hadn’t heard of The Scapegoat before. I LOVE 4:50 From Paddington! Probably my favorite Ms. Marple though I am more of a Poirot fan girl.

Poor Philip doesn't have many fans. Marple is growing on me but I doubt she will ever take over Poirot.

I read My Cousin Rachel last year and liked it slightly more than Rebecca. I think in my video about it I called it a masterclass in ambiguity. I was thoroughly impressed.
