Fun Fact: people think the "kill sound" (that weird whisper) is "heh heh heh, huh huh huh." It is actually "kill kill kill, mom mom mom." Jason's imaginary voice in Mrs Voorhees head.

This is such a great classic. Nobody involved expected this movie to go anywhere. Betsy Palmer received the script from her agent and said to herself “What a peace of sh**! Nobody will ever see this thing.” 😂She agreed to do it because she thought it would stay under the radar and she’d get a new car with the $10k she made. Of course, the rest is history. The greatest thing of all is that Betsy Palmer ended up embracing her part in the film decades later. She would frequently go to conventions, sign autographs, and have conversations with fans. I met her at one, and she was the sweetest, most classy lady ever. RIP Betsy.

Betsy Palmer (The actress who played Mrs. Voorhees AKA Gangsta Granny as how Asia called her) only agreed to play this role because her agent contacted her that there was role open to play that part that paid the same amount as a Volkswagen Scirocco, a car she really wanted at the time. She was not too keen on playing a horror movie role but she had since come around to it. And YES. Jack was in fact Kevin Bacon, years before his career broke out in Footloose!

I saw this in the theater was I was 14 years old. Everyone in the place (including me) jumped just like Asia did when Jason came up out of the lake. One of the greatest jump scares of all time!

Amazing masterpiece Friday the 13th produced and directed by Sean S. Cunningham starring Betsy Palmer, Adrienne King, Harry Crosby, Laurie Bartram, Mark Nelson, Jeannine Taylor, Robbi Morgan, Kevin Bacon and music score by Harry Manfredini. Friday the 13 came from Mario Bava's Bay of Blood 1971. You will see how some of the kills were taken from this movie and other ideas. Bay of Blood is the ultimate and unofficial Friday the 13th.

@@007REAPER007 argento had several women as killers lol and you gotta keep in mind, this was the first Friday movie. So nobody knew who Jason was. There were no expectations for who it was other than guessing who it could of been in that camp.

I love that this movie has somehow remained unspoiled compared to many others. No one knows who the killer is. This is probably the best story among the big three horror franchises.

@@adambomb138 Actually, I prefer the Nightmare films. I mean from a pure story perspective. There’s a villain with a good motivation, and it misdirects the viewer fairly well. Objectively, this is likely the best story of the big three.

Trivia , Trivia, the scene , with the actor who kills the snake. That's and , I'm not kidding, he is Harry Crosby, Bing's son. Also his sister is the culprit who shot JR, on the TV show Dallas. She not in this , but some trivia research for you guys. Can't wait.👍

Boy y’all had me laughing hysterically!! I do enjoy horror reactions like this! Let me tell y’all, there was so much buzz when this movie came out in 1980. All you kept hearing was about the killer and the twist at the end. I wanted to see it so badly but my mother was straight up like, “NOPE!” I was 9 years old and I tricked one of my cousins to go see it with me. We were the same age. But he didn’t know we were going to go see Friday the 13th. Only thing is back then, they’re not gonna sell an R rated movie like that to two 9 years olds. So we bought dummy tickets to something else. I convinced my cousin to see that movie instead, and we ended up sneaking into the theater. There was hardly anyone in there. We walked in on the part where Alice goes searching for Bill. Alice then closes the door to the generator room and that is when I screamed like a little girl. That freaked me out so badly that told my cousin “NOPE!” 😂 “Let’s go see that PG rated movie instead!…I can’t handle this!” It wouldn’t be until I was 13 by the time I finally saw it on cable. But it still managed to scare the hell out of me on a tiny screen. I can’t wait for y’all to see the next one!!

There were news stories when that came out showing people running out of theaters crying, screaming and vomiting. I was only 5 at the time, but remember hearing about it. Never saw it until years later-then I understood 😂

"You see, Jason was my son, and today is his birthday..." Fun Fact: The scene with the snake was not in the script, and was an idea from Tom Savini after an experience in his own cabin during filming. The snake in the scene was real, including its on-screen death. Location Location Fact: The movie was filmed at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco in New Jersey. The camp is still in operation, and it has a wall of Friday The 13th franchise memorabilia to honor that the movie was set there. Music Enthusiast Fact: Composer Harry Manfredini has said that contrary to popular belief, the famous "Chi, chi, chi, ha, ha, ha" in the film's score is actually "Ki, ki, ki, ma, ma, ma" and it is meant to resemble Jason's voice saying "Kill, kill, kill, mom, mom, mom" in Mrs. Voorhees's mind. It was inspired by the "Get her, mommy! Kill her!" scene in which Pamela Voorhees breaks mentally. Manfredini created the effect by speaking the syllables "ki" and "ma" into a microphone running through a delay effect.

That's very true, and Kevin Bacon they had him under the mattress and only his head sticking out and there was a body cast covering him and the director was under Kevin Bacon jamming the arrow through the body cast of fake blood and ice cubes awesome effect.

@@frauleinmona Yes, the person who provided the snake loved his snake and had no idea they were going to kill it. They had to hold him back from attacking the person who did it. Tom Savini denies even being on set that day. So if he did do it, he at least wished he didn't do it now.

My dad loved horror movies so him and my mom went and saw this the summer it came out. Mom was pregnant with me so I guess you can say this was my first horror movie. The ending where Jason turns the boat over my mom screamed dad thought she was going in labor we all had ptsd from it. It took me till I was 20 before I could watch it myself but when I did I fell in love and actually met Kane Hodder on of the guys who played Jason from 7-10

By the time I heard of Jason and Friday the 13th, there were 4 or 5 movies out, so of course when I watched this first movie, I assumed Jason was the killer. The crazy vengeful mother was scarier.

Jason jumping out of the water in FRIDAY THE 13th and the head popping out of the hole in the boat in JAWS are, imo, the biggest jump scares in movie history. I saw both at the theater and, trust me, it's even worse watching it on a huge screen in a dark theater with a packed audience. BTW, Asia isn't alone. Do you know how many people watch scary movies through their fingers? LOTS! Nothing wrong with that. 🙂

People didn't know all of the horror movie rules back then. I saw this when it came out at a Drive-In theater that was in a lot with a fence surrounded by trees that would sway in the cold wind and you could hear them like in the movie. Made this really chilling. Surreal. And we were pretty new to these slashers back then. Only a couple years ago, *Halloween* had came out.

My family and I saw this film on Cinemax in 2005 and it scared the hell out of us! Lol!! My mom couldn't sleep for a week after seeing it! The ending was on Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments. You'll see why later.

Jason is Alive - he stars in all the other friday 13th movies in a mask and kills ( he's brutal when he kills).. I enjoy watching all the friday the 13th movies.. Loved this reaction..

OMG... where do I start. BJ, you almost went into cardiac arrest during the Kevin Bacon kill (which is the best kill in the entire series because no one would've expected the killer to be under the bed the entire time). Then Asia, if you could've seen your eyes and reaction when the mom's head got chopped off, I had to rewind that twenty times, I was laughing so hard. And the best was the jump scare at the end in the boat with Jason. BJ you were right, your eyes got as big as the screen and Asia threw that blanket up so fast she didn't even see him. lol. I truly enjoyed watching your reactions to this film. Like you said, what makes this film a horror classic is the suspense, the music and the fact that nobody really knew they were in danger. Only Alice at the end after she found Bill hanging on the door, then she was the only one left. The first four films in this horror classic were the best and in my opinion, they should've stopped after The Final Chapter. I cannot wait to see your reactions in the next three parts.

My kid is built different. He binge watched this series, the Halloweens and the Nightmares over the Christmas break when he was 11. 😂 Never heard a peep out of him. I was scared at the time that I might be creating a monster. Thankfully, he turned out ok. 😂

Loved it! I watched this when I was 9 at a buddies house. Scared the crap out of me on the ending jump scare. Ok throughout the movie too. I saw all my past jump scares again. Thanks for making this old man laugh and remember the old times. Lol.

The reactions to the ending was hilarious! Funny story my Dad seen this in a date when it came out. He would recount how he jerked out of fright and almost pulled his dates arm out of the socket. He said the whole theater reacted to that because it was so unexpected with the peaceful music. I lost my Dad 3 years ago but remember the story.

Fun Facts: Actress Betsy Palmer only took the role of Mrs. Voorhees because she needed a new car. She didn't think the movie would be a hit even calling the script "a piece of sh-t". Movie Critics Siskel and Ebert were so "professional" over seeing Betsy Palmer do a horror (something she had never done before at that point) that they doxxed her name, address and phone number. Because you know, that's what professional movie Critics do when they don't agree with someone appearing in a horror film.

Excited you guys are doing FT13th. This series has a lot of sequels, but I'd say 4 and 6 stand out above the rest. The rest are pretty skippable unless you're a die hard fan.

I wouldn't disagree with anything any of you said. Part 2 is probably my favorite protagonist as well, more clever than any of the others. I still think 4 and 6 are the best in the series, but that's just my opinion. Next two favorites are absolutely 2, and then 3. 5 and 9 are probably the worst(as much as I love Miguel Nuñez and his damn enchiladas). 7 and 8 are objectively bad, but still hold a special bit of nostalgia in my heart. X is bad too, but I'm an FX geek, and it has one of my favorite Jason kills. Freddy VS Jason is essential viewing, but only after having toured both the Friday the 13th AND Nightmare on Elm Street series.

Fun fact... Sean Cunningham took an ad out in the paper for this movie even before he had a script written. But the whole reason he made this movie, is he seen the massive success that Halloween had in 1978. Sean Cunningham literally told his friends that he was going to rip Halloween off, which is why this movie is named after a certain day. So Friday The 13th probably wouldn't of existed without Halloween.

I was in Middle School myself. 😂. Believe it or not your household was like everyone's household. Something happened when this movie came out. Video rentals. VHS players could be rented. And VHS tapes could be rented. 😳 Rated R at home?! Us parents only see those in the second and triple feature of the drive-in when the kids fall asleep. 😳👍👍💃🏽💃🏽 Everybody was on board. 😂❤️

Such a fun reaction. There's a reason why I keep coming back to seeing you two. Two movies I really want to suggest is "Freaky" - Comedy/Horror and "Ready or Not" Very Dark Comedy, but very much Horror. Asia, you were priceless. 😜 Just love seeing your reactions. Fun Fact: The lake that was used wasn't called "Crystal Lake", but rather Mud Lake. HA! I guess that's not that scary. This movie was almost filmed at my Aunt and Uncle's Boy Scout Camp, Yards Creek. I have to start saving up for one of your Sweatshirts. These reactions mean so much to me, you have no idea.

I was 12 in 1980 when this came out. My Little League baseball team won our league championship. Our coach took the whole team to the movies as a reward. We talked coach into seeing Friday The 13th instead of The Empire Strikes Back. It was awesome!

ASia, I saw this movie when I was 8 years old. I WAS SCARED SHITLESS. To go outside at night without good lighting was not happening. I fed the dog outside at night in their kennels. I would help my mom water plants at night. After this movie every tree branch and plant leaf brushing on my clothes would scare me for sure. But 20 years later I was able to get over the dark and now I can go outside in the dark anytime I want. So you see, what a happy ending to my childhood horror. HA
