I had to laugh when you said that, I knew you meant Tablespoons. Becky, thank you so very much for your videos and for bringing back wonderful memories. I can remember my Mama making those fried apple pies and they were the best! A lot of the time if we did not have fresh apples she would use dried apples and rehydrate them. I appreciate the recipes and the link for making the filling so very much. I have tried other recipes but they weren’t quite right. I know that your recipe will be just right. I love all the signs in your kitchen, they all say just what my husband and I feel! I would love to find them somewhere. Thank you especially for the beautiful messages included in your video. I love your strong Christian belief and your unapologetic approach. You always state where viewers can skip to if they don’t want to hear the message, but I never do. I admire and respect you and appreciate your values and thank you so very much for sharing them with me and all your viewers.

We call them pasties here in England. In days gone by, workmen would take a long pasty with fruit one end and meat the other end - a whole meal! Loved the encouragement from the “weeping prophet!” 🤗

My mom made these when I was a kid from the canned biscuit dough. She'd do chocolate by simply mixing cocoa and sugar for the filling. It isn't a creamy chocolate for sure but the sugar does melt and if you add a smidge of butter on top it melts even more! I'll be doing this before long when my apples start ripening...if the horses leave me any that is. God bless you and yours. Jesus is Lord!

@@gloriacresswell8052 You could try that for sure. The cocoa and sugar is good though. I've made them and just put some butter on top so it melts the sugar better. Yes, it's grainy but oh so good.

This video brings back some really good memories for me. When I was 11 or 12 years old my best friend was a fellow named Mike. He's the brother of the woman that eventually became my wife. Although he passed many years ago (RIP), I still remember learning to bake and, to a lesser extent, cook with him, because he was his Grandma's favorite grandchild and she and her husband just happened to be retired bakers that used to run a neighborhood bakery from their home, which was about 8 doors down from my house, once I moved onto the block. She gave him (and me) the run of her kitchen and access to her recipes and her library of cookbooks. We focused on confections and candies and pastries and the first thing we tackled was fried apple pies. We had a neighbor that had some kind of wild apple tree in his backyard that had the sourest apples I ever ate and they were free for the taking, since he hated cleaning them up before he cut his grass. We learned how to sweeten and fry up those apples in butter (oleo margarine, actually) and, although we used canned biscuit dough, how to roll out crusts and fill 'em up and crimp 'em with a fork just like you did and fry 'em in Crisco. Cinnamon and powdered sugar was the topping of choice. I think I'm gonna have to have another go at it now that I can afford better apples and actual butter. LOL By the way, his Grandma always took care of the cleanup if we shared the fruits of our labor with her, so next time you knock over the sugar, offer Brett a pie to clean it up for you.

Oh and the title also drew me to this video because it reminded me of my dad (RIP Daddy), who out of the blue took some green apples my cousin and I picked from his tree in his back yard, and made these "knock your socks off" patries like you did. It was so random and so good! Kinda like he was showin' off that he could cook whenever he felt like it. 😂 And he never made them again no matter how much we asked him to. Such a tease! 😂 So thank you for letting me re-live that memory 35+ years later. 🙏🏾

This is how I love the work God does. My two daughters and I have been through some very hard things. And I was just telling someone I have my faith being very happy as a Christian, and secure in it. God is Hope. Without God, there is no hope. It helps us spur on knowing He's always there. :) I like the way I say or think something, an hour later i "see" it or hear it, and I look up and say thank you for letting me know I'm still on the right path. Have a beautiful day!

If you will allow, I have a story about my Daddy's Brother, Roy Franklin Bowen. He was a cook in WWII AND COOKED IN GERMAN basement. He found apples in the fruit cellar, he asked hi commander if he could make fried pies out of em. The commander said no" they could have been poisoned. He said I will eat one or two before served. If I die throw em out. He agreed to his request. He did not die, and there were many happy soldiers. As a side note. He was one of the few who served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He was one of the best Uncles I had. And he loved us like a Grand paw for sure. This story filled my eyes up with a bunch of great memories. ❤️🇺🇸

Thank you for your yummy receipes. I would love to use one of your paperback bibles. My husband became paralysed in March of last year. He thought the pain he was experiencing was his sciatica. It turned out to be cancer of the prostate. Anyway it has been a year of ups and downs. But my husband's second trip to the hospital turn out to be a life or death situation. God was there with us. He performed miracles in the hospital, that I will never forget. I am sure the doctor, that got down on his knees in front of me will never forget either. He begged me to turn off all the life saving machines. My husband made a muscle to show me he was Okay. I just keep praying. I prayed, that every hand that touched him God would work his healing power through their hands. By that evening he was 50% better, by the next morning he was another 59% better, by the next morning they were waiting on a bed , so he could leave intensive care. The doctor came in and tried to take credit for God's miracles. Also, when my husband was able to talk to me he said an old doctor cane to see him twice and told him he was going to be alright, but he never seen his face. I am sorry for going on, but I am my husband"s care giver now. He is moving his legs and I will never give up faith in my Lord. So, if you could spare a bible I would appreciate it.

Yes! My Mama, too. Wasn’t them the best apples ever? I didn’t mind helping peel the apples, or laying them out on screens to dry and rearranging them. Oh, and you had to watch for a sudden rain shower or thunderstorm passing through to ruin your apples outside drying. Those were the best times, and people seemed so much smarter.

We used dried peaches or dried apples to make or fried pies. Also we rolled our dough thinner. A little less than 1/4 inch. People stood in line at church dinners to get one. Some people got the pie first then went to the back of the line to get the main dishes.

Becky, while reading through the many comments on this video, I recognized what was happening with the mic and spilled sugar. I used to write a Christian blog. I would often come under spiritual attack because satan did not want the message I was writing about out there. I learned to recognize those attacks (which could happen before or after I would write), and then I learned to always pray for protection from those attacks beforehand (I’m a slow learner 😉). Not every struggle is an attack, obviously, but at the same time many are. You are doing a mighty work for the LORD, and satan will take notice, as he does with all Believers who are obediently following God. As long as you obediently continue in this ministry, and are successfully ministering to your fellow Believers, as well as sharing the Gospel, satan will do whatever he can to frustrate your efforts. I will be praying for God’s protection over you and Brett and this ministry. May God bless you, and keep you, and shelter you in His hand.

Your prayers are needed and appreciated. I too have learned to recognize satan's attacks (most of the time) and pray for protection, but I'm also a slow learner, lol, and I forget sometimes. Thank you and God bless you Mary.

Fried pies bring back childhood memories. I remember us grandkids turning over the apple slices my granny was drying in the sun on an old sheet so they would dry evenly, but my neighbor made THE best fried pies when me and my 4 siblings and her 5 kids were growing up. My youngest brother loved her fried pies so much that she would make them especially for him even as an adult! Thank you!

It’s so awesome that you made this video. My granny made these when I was growing up and I was too young to really learn how she did it. Years later when my mom passed I found granny’s recipe for the pies amongst moms things but it was just the measurements with the ingredients. The way you do yours seems most like what I remember her doing. I’ve watched so many videos of fried pie making and yours is the one that might actually work for me. And besides your voice sounds like hers so it’s gotta be the best one. 😉 also I appreciate so much you giving glory to God and sharing your thoughts on His word. Do everything as unto the Lord...even frying pies. 👍

I had a "God wink" moment while viewing this. Right when you said the word, "trust," my 3 O'Clock reminder went off. I pray at 3 O'Clock even if it's just for a moment, because that's the hour Jesus died to redeem us, and I spill out my gratitude to the God of goodness and mercy, praying, "Jesus, I trust in You." And then I pray for the world and all the people in it, the people I've promised to pray for, the conversion of sinners and salvation of souls. I'm also reminded that Acts 3:1 says, "Peter and John were going up to the temple area for the 3 O'Clock hour of prayer." That's when Peter healed the lame man. The notification reminds me to take a moment of my day to remember the Lord is faithful. I truly appreciate the verse you shared because He indeed is my hope. It wasn't an accident that I was listening to you share it at 3 O'Clock - it all ties together 💐

When you are frying anything in butter - add a little bit of olive oil - or any other good oil to your butter. It will raise the burn temp so that it doesn't burn so quick & easy. I know that you uploaded this one awhile ago, so I hope you see my reply!

@@TheHillbillyKitchen You are very welcome! The best parts are with using a good oil - you still get that yummy butter flavour even though you've added oil plus you don't have to switch out the butter for each item - it lasts for more items being cooked in it. @@CarsonMichelleYoung the only difference is the fruit your using. I like to use dried peaches (or apricots), cook with just enough water to cover. Simmer until they're soft, keep them stirred, season with sugar & just a spoonful of butter. Hubby doesn't like cinnamon in his peach pies. Roll out the crust & add your cooked fruit, LET IT COOL before putting it in your rolled dough. Fold over, seal & fry until browned. I try to cook mine on medium/medium high, want your oil to stay hot enough to cook pies or they'll be greasy, but not so hot they'll burn before they're done. For blueberries pies, I use canned pie filling. Experimented with strawberry jam with a few shells, save your jam. Hubby didn't like them.

Thank you for sharing the scripture and reminding us that God loves us. I enjoy all your videos most are the way Do mine. My mama taught me how to cook using all the old fashion, delicious ways to make food. I wish more moms would take the time to teach their children how to cook and read and study the scriptures. I am almost 74 years old, my son is 53 and he is divorced, he cooks a lot of things I taught him to cook. I told him when he was growing up I wanted him to be able to take care of himself. He has turned into a very good cook Sunday he cooked us baked chicken, Mac and Cheese, frozen peas, and I cooked the cornbread, he loves my cornbread. We enjoyed it very much and I am so proud I raised a son that can do a little of everything. He is a auto mechanic by trade but he has done many things just like his daddy. He built the house he lives in and did all the plumbing, electrical work, everything it takes to build a house he did it. I have bragged enough on how proud of him I am . Thanks again for sharing your talent both in cooking and the scriptures.
