I think Ruth deeply loved her like a best friend or a sister.. they had a true bond that you really couldn't define clearly.. I've thought about this before, they were polar opposites, but in a way they were the same person. Idgy was rough and tough on the exterior and she was ready to fight anyone at any time. But inwardly she was soft and fragile and unsure of herself at times. And as for Ruth she always dressed like a lady behaved dignified in public and some might say physically she was weak, but on the inside she as strong as 10 women.. why do you ask if I knew they were lesbians?

Aw I hope he likes it. My mom did the same thing. She always watches lifetime channel when she's about to go to sleep, and I'd sit with her and eat after I'd get home from work and watch a bit. Normally I'm not big on, pretty much anything on lifetime, but I couldn't stop watching it. My mom just had this big grin on her face that her sporty son who mostly watches action and sci Fi stuff loved that movie. I haven't seen it in a hot minute. Gotta watch it again. Kathy Bates is low key one of the greatest female actors of all time imo, who deserves way more fame than she ever got. Her performance in Misery literally makes that movie as great as it is

My best friend, who shares my first name, is only 2 weeks younger than me born in the same year. Our dads were good friends, but hers died when she was very young. Growing up, she would call my dad daddy. We are almost 30 and this movie(I was basically raised on it) always brings up to me the special and rare relationship that I have with her.

I've been watching this movie forever and I have not once seen anything at all towards lesbian sexual content. How in the world do you figure? Surely you don't believe that two people of the same gender cannot be best friends unless they are "doing it". That's so sad. Not everything is about sex. I've had many female best friends through my life and we loved each other and would die for each other but we always hoped for that special man one day would come along. We girls would "boy talk" all the time as my brother and his male best friends would do about their future female love of their life. This movie is about sisterhood and family. Looking out for one another no matter what race or gender. Unfortunately people are blinded somehow and pervert everything. So sad.

@@stacyjobe6697 I never said anything about sex. It's a beautiful lesbian classic. 1.) Try googling it it's rated a lesbian classic. 2.) Read the actual book that came out years before the movie. If you believe two people inlove making love is sad then you live a sad life. It doesn't matter how many friends you've had or their gender it doesn't change the facts. Fanny (the writer) had two lesbian aunt's and this is based on their life together.
