It's really great to see this spot featuring Angela Cartwright once again. It remains one of my favorite advertisements, and a great example of creative, emotional marketing. How different the world seems to be now. Perhaps some old-fashioned sentiment is due for a comeback.

I never knew that was her until I saw her link to this video on her website. Does it make me want to fly? No. Flying sucks. I'd rather drive cross country. Unless I feel like splurging, in which case I'd take Amtrak's Auto Train for part of my trip.

I don't know how somebody can say that this is not Angela. It is her indeed. It's mentioned on her website that she was the spokeswoman for United Airlines in 1972-'73 and other commercials such as Schick. If it were not her it wouldn't be on her site, and this commercial shows her amazing singing talent.

That commercial is from 1972-73. United had that livery in the early 70's to about 1974 when the legendary "rainbow" scheme was used for the next two decades.

Having flown no less than five complete round trips from HNL to IAD, I can tell you that it's not a bad flight, even in economy class. The difference in flight time west to east versus east to west is incredible. The shortest flight I experienced was HNL to IAD, 8:05, while the longest was IAD to HNL, slightly over 10 hours.

I remember one day when I was in training when I started working for United. We had some spare time so the instructor put in a video tape of United Commercials. The quality of this commercial was incredibly clear. I'm sure somebody from the Old United must have that tape. If they so perhaps they can upload it so we can see it with better clarity.

I really enjoyed this. I recorded it onto my cell phone to share it with others. I remember the good old pre-deregulation days when United Air Lines was the Standard Airline of the World! My previous comments were entered incorrectly but were to agree with previous comments of being favorite all time ad., and feel that UAL should get its act together, then play this ad again.

Transcription: Narrator (Burgess Meredith) voiceover: Let United Air Lines show you this great land you live in, with more vacations and more tours than ever before. Come, to your land, with us! Music, up and over: (Lyrics) 🎶 Have you seen the other side of where you live? Don't you know, this great big land has got so much to give? Mother Country's got her arms open wide. Don't let your good land pass you by. (Pass you by) Your land is our land anywhere the big bird flies. Stretching out in glory, proud beneath the skies. Come along, sing the song, people, now's the time. The friendly skies of your land -- United Air Lines.

Yes! I also liked her as Linda Williams on "Danny Thomas". In this commercial she shows her singing talent. Even at the end when she is joined by a big crowd her voice doesn't get drowned out, we still hear her loud and clear on lead vocal. BTW did you know that she's English?

@mooninsantacruz i believe you are referring to George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, one of the greatest American pieces and American composers of his time, not to mention a man of extreme talent who not only composed classical pieces, but also some very noteworthy vocal and theatrical pieces. I would highly disagree with your statement if, indeed, this is the "theme song" you are referring to... you can never overplay a piece of history!

Undeniably catchy but utterly of its time. Top shelf professionalism in that each frame, actor, physically and sartorially, choreographed within an inch of its life. Hilarious at the final shot of the group, made to appear their hands are joined, but they're not. Still, well done and memorable.

@TomsFriendKake Didn't US airlines, including United, also fly to Canada before deregulation as well?
@mrtodd36203 жыл бұрын
Yes they did, but not by much. If you look at old route maps, United had at most two international flights before dereg: Seattle/Vancouver and later Vancouver/Chicago, and the other US airlines had about the same number to other cities. Seems like the airlines of Canada would fly to the USA more than the other way around.
@georgesignoriello73668 ай бұрын
We didn't really start flying internationally until we purchased some Asian routes in a deal with Pan AM. We also acquired some aircraft from them which inlcuded United's one and only L1011, and one or two 747SP aircraft. The SP went on to fly for SOFIA which flew large scale telescopes that were used inflight through a speciallly designed cargo door. I believe SOFIA just recently retired the SP as well.

Will always be my favorite airline commercial, but airline travel is so ugly today. I won't fly anymore. I take the train to Omaha or Denver twice a year, tourism, vacation and travel have become the home of bad behavior among US Americans. Since we refuse to teach ourselves to behave whether traveling or in regard to gun use . . .its just best to stay home. Tirades over babies crying, yoga pants women's wrestling matches and attempted exits at 30,000 don't inspire me to come along and sing the song, the friendly skies of your land. United Airlines.
