My first day at the wild life rescue center i was given the opportunity to be a part of the release of a three toed sloth.
If you're curious about how I got to work with lots of amazing animals as a wildlife volunteer in Ecuador, send me a message on Instagram (@matthias.pav) or Facebook (Matthias Páv). I'll do my best to answer your specific questions about wildlife volunteering and share tips on visiting this sanctuary.
Knowing I've inspired action truly makes my day!
As most wildlife in the rainforest sloths are under threat due to their habitat being flooded by human activity.
Naturally they will get themselves in nasty situations as for example traffic accidents or getting electrocuted by high-voltage cables (as this was the case for a capuchin monkey i worked with at the sanctuary). 🚦⚡
Luckely there are privately owned sanctuaries (because they are never funded by the state), like the @yanacocha_rescue center, that can receive animals that are found injured. There, they'll be given a second life or be released back into the wild ones healed. ⚕️
