this squirrel is not my pet. she straight up followed me to my house from the woods, and now lives in the trees in my yard. it sounds crazy, but it's not unheard of for young fox squirrels to imprint on humans when young, and she was right around the age of leaving the nest when I first encountered her. i put up a little squirrel house on my deck for her to stay in at night but she moved to the trees not long afterwards. shes forages on her own but she visits nearly every day for snacks.

I've been feeding squirrels in my deck for 15 yrs & even though we've been through generations of them, the younger ones always seem to know that I'm safe. My husband built a little platform with a roof over it so they could stay while they eat the goodies I put out for them. They live in a very tall pine tree right up by my fence ❤

My uncle was a wildlife biologist who worked for the Dept of Interior. As a kid visiting him at various wildlife refuges from Michigan to Montana, it seemed he always had some critter eating out of his hands! He would stroke a squirrel in a way that would hypnotize them for minutes at a time (he paid them in peanuts). All of our family loved animals and wildlife, and he was the coolest uncle in the world! I’m happy for the wonderful gift that Ophelia has given you!

When hurricane Irma rolled in years ago, my friends found a baby squirrel hiding in their garage. By the time the storm was over, he refused to leave, so they kept feeding him and taking care of him. He was super sweet and playful. Loved climbing all over people when he was excited. Climb up your leg onto your chest, then run around to your back, then up onto your shoulder, down your arm, back up the arm, down your back, then back around to your chest, then run down your leg When he got older, if I recall correctly, he just left and didn't come back. Hope he just decided he needed to be out on his own, and nothing bad happened to him.

I love this young man.. I have every type of wild animals in my yard day and night.. at night the fox,, coyotes,, skunks, possums, ground hogs etc...get dog food and all our left eversThey love unsalted in shell roasted peanuts. I also have blueberry and blackberry bushes and a walnut tree that I leave 100% for the animals as well as buying 40 lbs each of cracked corn and sunflower seeds, and bird seed. We have turkeys, squirrels, chipmunks, crows, woodpeckers, blue Jay's, cardinals sparrows etc... I get so much joy from them

I fostered an orphaned baby squirrel a few years back! they're truly the cutest animals ever and I miss him every day. but being male, once he left the nest (my bedroom) he went right out on his own for good. Once he was old enough I had the window open 24/7 in my room, with no screen and with the roof of my porch giving him access to the trees. But even when I'd bring him out in the yard (he'd hang out on my shoulder or in my sports bra all day long) he'd go climb the trees and come back to sun bathe on me and hitch a ride back in the house to my room. Until one day he just wandered off for good. I'd very much like to make more squirrel friends in the future. They're like rats mixed with cats mixed with lizards mixed with dogs all in one soft loving and extremely agile little body. May be my all time favorite mammal to have as a friend.

I had my favorite squirrel and a family of squirrels too. I used to feed and talk to them. But sadly, I moved out of state. I doubt the new tenants fed them, the chipmunks, the birds and the deer that I fed everyday. It’s funny how we can bond with these beautiful, wild animals. I do miss them all!💕
