Heckles died alone. There was no one to clear out his things and (to my knowledge) no one to mourn his passing beyond the upstairs neighbors he barely knew. Matthew Perry was loved by millions who never met him and possibly hundreds of people who knew him personally. He may have been physically alone at the moment of his death, but he was never truly alone in life. He had his parents and his five best friends who loved him dearly. Especially Jennifer Anniston from what I've been able to tell.

I always felt sad that Joey didn't end up with anyone because he was the sweetest, and i hated how the writers made Joey and Rachel a thing because it was obvious Rachel and Ross were meant to be. Joey should have at least found someone sincere for him.

@@Oscar.224 He really didn't. Heckles was a crotchety recluse who no one seemed to like. He also seemed to be a hoarder and a perpetual liar. Matthew likely had some mental health issues, but from everything I've seen of him in the last several years, he was in much better shape overall than Heckles.

I always thought I would be alone and no kids for various reasons. Now, I am married and kids are along the way. While, all my friends who wants to be "married" are alone (or can't have a serious relationship)

The irony here is Chandler is worried about ending up alone, but the writers kept Joey single to show that you don't need a relationship to find happiness. Also, he's talking about ending up alone to the the character the ends the show alone.
