Marvin Jones started writing letters to the students who had bullied him at his Virginia high school, where in the 1960s he was one of several students to desegregate it. In the process of writing the letters, he found an unexpected friend. Steve Hartman has his story in "On the Road."

These stories about discrimination are an embarrassment and disgrace to the United States. Hard to believe that it’s still happening... it’s heartbreaking 🙏🏽

As in my seventies, in many ways and in many areas, it is much better. But there are deep pockets of prejudice from both sides and discrimination against African Americans and Hispanics.😢 We are still in danger! 😢

I just read "Warriors never cry", the memoirs of a girl involved in desegregating Central High School in Little Rock, Ark. The hatred, the harassment, was brutal. *Brutal.* I often wonder if any of those people regret what they said and did.

this made me tear up, I am thankful that there are still people receptive to learning from others who are different from them

This made me cry. I grew up in the 70s and 80s going to an all white school. Somehow I needed this story today....suddenly what I went through was absolutely nothing. My stories do not even begin to compare.

Few know these brave students in this school and thousands of others in desegregation! A person's skin color should never be a cause of prejudice!

People still live with this trauma to this day!!! The 21st century! Do not ever forget, we can never ask people that its in the past when racism comes into the conversation

60 years after desegregation black men now have the lowest HS grad rates, highest incarceration rate and lowest fathers in the home. Great job.

It’s sad that people who have it so easy, also can still hate so easily. Hope you get better.

Yeah Mike, it’s because racism still exists. On the surface it doesn’t look like it, but the opportunities afforded to Black Americans are lacking compared to their white counterparts.

Its almost as if structural racism leads to different treatment in society... 🙄

True nothing truly good came out of integration. Each time we had our own communities they destroyed those communities.
