I'm a drummer. I record in an 8x10 shed. Drywall inside. I hung blankets on certain spots of the wall an ceiling (do get rid of unwanted reflections). I get quite good results (that I'm happy with). I use a cheap interface(s) with 12 channels for drums. Mostly stock plug-ins. Kali LP6's and a mackie sub. Budget drum mics and Budget condensers. When I make music , it is for my own pleasure as I am 45yrs old. But my sound is good enough apparently , that others pay me to mix and master their recordings. One thing I find during the mastering phase , is that IF I have to make big moves to try to get a song sounding good , then something is wrong from the mixing phase , and I go back. When I get a clients mix , and it already sounds like shit , I tell them go back and re-record this or that. You can't polish a turd. Even though Reaper has a "Turd Polish" icon. LoL. But I am by no means a so called "Pro".

Trey is spot on. 80% of the mixes that people send me are random riffs recorded over EZdrummer without any vocals or melodic topline.

@SilentScreamStudios can't handle my heat so he pushed me out of the kitchen for telling home truths 😂 He calls Bobby a wannabe because he is jealous of bobbys skills as a sound engineer, Gio of Silent Scream Studios bought bot subscribers and bot views which killed his channel, but he won't admit that, he will just tell you he "earns real money". He missed the point because his attitude stinks and he doesn't take constructive criticism well to learn how to improve. Making videos is to showcase talent and skill as a hobby, Gio can't do that because his skill level blows worse than wet TNT. Bobby has talent....Gio doesn't......Here endeth the lesson ❤😘

I like the tough love attitude here. Wondering if you are familiar with the evans sensory percussion module and software. It seems like a more accurate alternative to traditional drum triggers. Can be outputted to midi as well so easy to blend with acoustic sounds.

Great to finally see an instructional video explaining well how there is no magic bullet except the songwriting and pre-production.... everyone thinks there is a magic mic or pre, or plug in, when nothing in the world will make a poor song sound like a well written and executed one.

I have to thank you. I've been making my first ever album and your tips have been instrumental in preventing my mixes from sounding like a broken vacuum cleaner. I've still got some things to learn and I think I still have a bit of 'deafness' when I'm trying to critically listen to my own mixes. However I have improved a LOT in the past years, mainly because of your videos. To the point where I'm wincing when listening to my old recorded stuff. Thank you again.

Lately I have beeb making guitar tracks with a Midi guitar. And ill be honest, i like it way better than recording a real guitar. The SFZ files of the guitar are all changeable, palm mute options, up pick down pick etc. It sounds so cool that something programmed sounds so real. I discovered if you set one guitar to up pick on one side, and the other to down pick on the other side, you get a crazy cool tone. Emulators are insane. This one is free. But figure i leave this here since you said to say whats up in the hpme studio.

Another great video Bobby! I remember how amazed I was when for the first time I took the time to track properly and then edit (after checking my ego at the door). The raw mix sounded better than any of my final mixes 😂

For all guitar players I really recommend the custom Jeff Loomis picks, not necessary for playing leads and solos but the riffs sound brutal and aggressive with them

I can relate to the properly tracked part. My band and i are fairly distant about an hour drive from Eachother. Im doing our production for the EP and i make everyone come to me when tracking strings. Too many variables and inconsistencies when it comes to guitar tracking

I love the tuning that's stock in Logic and I've found it to be even better than paid plugins sometimes. There are other free VST vocal tuners that you can try if you don't have a Mac w/ Logic.

Tuning and intonation is a big one I reckon! I've heard insane stories, literally this week, of certain producers tuning guitars evert 4 bars when recording! That made me laugh, but I got why you would be that anal. I've just got a new guitar, and the string gauge the store had weren't heavy enough I don't think, but the tuning of the 7th string is doing my head in because it comes under this issue of inconsistent. Hopefully, the new strings I've got are heavy enough, but holy moly I think that people forget how big of a deal this is when recording at home. If you can hear it, others may overlook it, but not people that like what you're putting out. I suffer from the 'demo' end product quite a bit, and this coming week I'm finally going to try and record a full length EP/Mini album, so I hope that I can avoid these issues!

Seeing other people more successful and better at something than you, really grinds your gears doesn't it. If you don't like the stuff Bobby puts out, don't watch it, that way it won't bother you that he is far more successful as a sound engineer than you could ever be. Go earn your big bucks and stop trolling people's channels just because you are bored, maybe try reviving your own channel to prove me wrong, that could be fun 😂

@skull6951 bro, i can do what I like with my money. If I want to buy subs, then I will. Does it bother you? I stopped wasting my time with stupid videos. Lmfao, I make bank at my REAL job. Only 5 to 10% of youtubers do good. Why waste time on a video just to get 1500 or less views. Don't get me wrong, some of my vids did ok but I rather do what makes me money. I did mix and master an album for a band as well. Bro go away

@@SilentScreamsStudios What real money to buy real rabbit food? Bro you earn money in your job only cause you failed miserably by buying subs and views, got yourself shadow banned. Making videos isn't always about making money, it's about showcasing talent and showing others skills or passing on knowledge. Your mixes just couldn't make it. I have been meaning to ask you, how did you enjoy being glen frickers butthurt of the week? You could do a lot worse than taking bobby's advice and actually improve your mixing (not quite) skills, I've heard your creations, you are not in the same league as Bobby and your attitude would get in the way of coming close every time because YOU CAN'T TAKE CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.
