I raised my son listening to Frightened Rabbits first album. Through the years both of us would be excited to hear new albums coming out and listen together. My son picked up a guitar due to his love of frightened rabbit, and related Scott after hearing about some of the anxieties Scott had growing up. Having to tell tell my boy that his favorite artist is now gone, has been his first real case of a loss and has opened his eyes to how fragile life is. We never met Scott, but his voice is a piece of my fatherhood and my sons childhood. Although we aren’t related, we feel this loss like a brother. We thank you for giving us something that will always live on in our lives, and for playing such an awesome role in creating good memories.

I dont want to patronize you and start up the whole 'it's such a shame, what a waste' because you deserve better than that but I will say thank you, for the music you gave us, for the amazing lyrics you wrote, for being so open and honest with us through your songs, for getting me through some seriously hard times and for giving me music that I could really just sit and listen to for hours. This is hard to watch knowing it was right before he passed. I love the question about his drawings at the end. You could see him perk up about something he really loved to do. And interesting to know Things is his favorite. Oh how he is missed. I caught him live anytime I got the chance. He got me through some dark times and I still love him dearly.

I've suffered from mental illness most of my life. He is struggling through this interview. Let's consider something. When someone is extremely artistically talented, it is many times a double edged sword. The extreme sensitivity that enables him to be to create such beauty,also leaves the door open for emotional angst. With artists as gifted as he was, his end was almost inevitable. Still, he gave more more to us in his short life, than most give in a life time. I wish I knew him. I'm determined to go to Selkirk and sit on his bench, and mourn in my own way. Miss you more than you know.

Mark Linkous suicide hit me more because I'm besotted by Sparklehorse, however this was more of a surprise as I never knew he had such demons. I was at the same Max Richter concert. I was also too star struck to speak to Max at the merch desk after the show, and much too awkward to speak to Scott when I saw him in the car park across the street from the venue.

The other band members of Joy Division never realised that Ian Curtis meant every word of the lyrics on 'Closer', they just thought it was some cool shit to say. Anyways, the greatest musical artist out there now is Gregory Alan Isakov and long may he live!

oh brother, I miss him

As much as I loved M.O.F. when it came out, I loved each subsequent album just as much. There's so many great songs on each, I couldn't say definitively that this record was better than the others. Each had the same painful lyrics. He's a bit flippant about the 'heartache' laid bare on that album but every song on this and other recordings speaks of his pain in relation to other matters, mostly himself and his struggles to cope. Very painful to listen to at times, knowing now what happened but the music was always great and so glad to have been along for the journey. (A great shame we'll never know what those new songs were or hear how self produced music would have sounded. They had more albums in them, and I wouldn't be surprised if Owl John made another surface or two). One of the greatest bands of the last 20 years. No other artist like him. May his legacy build as the years go on, but it's still incredibly sad that he was in so much pain. Recommend his solo project too, Owl John. RIP Scott. And peace to all those who suffer from depression, and addiction.

1) I kinda hate how he keeps saying at various times (here and in other interviews) how unattractive he is and how people aren't showing up for his, or the band's, looks. I mean, I know people are into them because of the music and lyrics, and i know he's just got a knack for self-deprecation, but I find him to be handsome and adorable. 2) this interviewer is really good. 3) it is REALLY heart-rending to hear him talk about the work on the 6th album, and how they'd set up their studio, etc. :( 4) I wonder if the documentary-filming was completed.
