This video explains the sequential progress from a simple pendulum oscillation to determining the speed of a wave formula.
The side-to-side oscillation of a pendulum moving in one direction can produce a periodic wave pattern.
This pattern can be better observed by viewing the moving pendulum from above, where the bob moves up and down as the periodic wave moves to the right.
The periodic wave pattern generated by the oscillating pendulum can be useful for determining the fundamental variables of a wave such as amplitude, wavelength, period, and frequency, and for deriving the speed of a wave formula known as the product of the wavelength and frequency.
