There are mainly skill sets you can apply to your IT Support role such as Powershell. I use both Bash and Powershell on the job in my current role as a Desktop Support Tech/Linux Workstation Admin which are transferable skill sets. A lot of Cloud and DevOps roles requires knowledge of Powershell, Bash and Python Scripting and working with DevOps tools like Terraform, Ansible, packer, Version Control systems like Git which often a requirement for IaC. Not many people talk about DevOps and IaC when it comes studying to be a Cloud Engineer as real Cloud Engineers automate in the cloud.

Same here. I've bounced around different industries - starting in a Call Center as Tech Support, then moving to IT Service Desk, followed by field work as a Desktop Engineer, and eventually managing a team as Senior IT Support Officer. However, I still felt like it was a dead end. After months of trying to figure out my path forward, I finally started my new job last month as an Azure Cloud Engineer for a big IT Consulting firm. Despite my limited knowledge of Azure and only having an ITIL certification, the employer was kind enough to upskill me and provide certifications necessary for success in this role. I must have done something right to impress them, going from a frustrated helpdesk guy to now handling large clients with hopes of securing more opportunities in the future.

I’ve been at help desk for almost 3 years with my ccna, security+, and A+. Studying for solutions architect now hoping I’ll like it and I can actually move up from help desk because I don’t even get call backs when I apply to anything more than a help desk

I would love a video of your thoughts on leveraging previous learned skills to transition to the cloud. IE: from banking to cloud.

I know your question was mention for creator but allow me to chime in as I’ve been helping some of my peers with this question. The way that you can leverage your skills from banking into cloud / IT is to understand how some of your skills relate to job functions in the IT / cloud industry. For instance if you handle large sums of data in excel or you have a ticketing system that you use wether it be servicenow or salesforce for example that can pair really well with data analysis and data validation which is done in the IT/cloud industry. Ticketing systems are also a part of the IT/ cloud industry so that translates over as well. As video states, CompTIA is a great place to start when trying understand how some skills can be translated. Can’t really leverage or even transition into the IT / Cloud space without knowing the basics. I got into cybersecurity by means of project management. I started off in the call center for spectrum doing tech support then branched off into being a project coordinator for ADT and leveraged what little IT skills were involved (it being updating software and operation systems for the office, onboarding new hires on rare occasions, troubleshooting why computers failed to connect to the company network, etc) and continued the trend of learning outside of work, pairing that with my job functions, and also acquiring some certs along the way to now being a security coordinator. Apologies for the length but i hope this compliments the video and answers a bit of your question

@@Leisurelifeoptics this absolutely helps! I was in charge of a lot of software, excel sheets and password support for the software. I will revisit that on my resume and make sure I have it on a pedestal.

I passed my AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate and never got one nibble from any recruiter or job. I let my cert go in January and will pick it up after I get my CCNA and study data bases and Linux. I thought I would get an entry level in the field but I got nothing, nada, zip. It was so frustrating. No interviews at all.

This is amazing! I’m actually taking my AWS CP exam tomorrow then enrolling in the AWS Skill Builder SA Learning Plan to get the AWS SAA by August. Do you recommend doing mini AWS mini projects before getting the AWS SAA?
