Designer Erick Garcia of Maison Trouvaille returns to AD to transform an aimless, underutilized room into a colorful and functional baby nursery on the next episode of Replace This Space. Followers of Brittany Xavier (@brittanyxavier) know that the style influencer welcomed a baby girl this summer - but her family’s new arrival needed a place in the home to call her own. To transform Brittany’s “catch-all” room into the dream nursery she envisioned, Erick partnered with Crate & Kids, designing and delivering a brand new space that checked all of her boxes.

I was laughing so hard. Why such a low backed chair? The glass picture frames right by the change table, where do her millions of little books go? No task lighting over the changing area, the pot plant she’ll pull over and spread dirt on the floor. Oh so funny. What a terrible designer.

Hello AD, which of the following you think is a brilliant idea for a nursery Sleeping - Neon lights and with chords that can be reached - Thumb tacks by the crib - Low fenced crib - Bright sheer curtains Feeding - Low and rocking to add challenge sitting down while holding a baby - Material you cannot just easily wipe down - Low arm rest - No head and shoulder support Changing Station - Picture frames the baby can easily grab - Low pedestal table the can easily topple while you move around - No place to put the disposal bin - No easy access shelf for diapers and wipes Or just put a tree with actual dirt easily accessible for a mobile baby to grab and put in the mouth.

I completely agree with you on all but 1 thing. Its an adjustable crib so the bed platform can be lowered so its further from the top of the fence. I used to have one for my daughter and they are great. You can have it higher for little newborns that cant crawl or climb yet and then lower it for older babies.

The second the baby starts crawling, this room will need to be redone. This room is done for photographing, not really for function. That little table with all the stuff for changing means she will be doing the limbo every time she wants to grab a wipe. Move the decorative books on the counter and you have your space for stuff, not some low table behind you. Also agree that the things on the cork board right above the crib will have to be removed too. Now this would be a nice room for an 8year old but not a baby.
@MsSherryjh

Dangerous things within babies reach need to be removed. Love having a plant - it adds oxygen to the air. The plant is not the right one for a small child's room. Check it out. Ficus sap is an irritant for human skin. I like his work, but he needs to study some more before he does a room like this again. And who's checking at AD?

Yeah, most expensive part would be the ceiling 3k-5k at most with light electrical, then Rug/closet/paint 500-800, decor/paintings/plants 300ish then Nursery/desk 500-800. 7k at most with expensive products. But a lot of ppl can pull this off with less than 2k easily.

The cork wall with stick pins? What? It looks cheap and it’s dangerous at any age. A beautifully framed large cork board off center and away from the crib would’ve been a much more realistic option if creating pic collages was the intent. The framed prints by the changing table won’t last long either once baby starts wiggling around and grabbing things while getting dressed and changed. Wow, glad this isn’t my professionally designed nursery.

This has to be one of the worse AD designs that I've ever seen. The whole nursery was not only impractical, but it was very bland and mature for a baby girl. And where's the color? The woman stated she wanted color and wanted to stay away from neutral colors. And yet, the primary aesthetic is mature bohemian style for a millennial. ..also, the designer really missed a great opportunity to play around with color for a newborn girl. There were so many color palates, wallpaper designs, and cute animals or girlie themes that he could have played with. This designer sucks.

@landdcollection

It looks so cute but it’s clear that no one in that team was a parent. The dust on the cork board and the thumb tacks are really not a great idea around a baby. The plant will 100% become an issue once the baby begins crawling. The nursing chair will be a pain to clean, not to mention that that style and fabric are already going out of style. I’m assuming they’re in California, so the art around the crib and changing bramble are also iffy (esp with the way it was hung.) Again - lovely room, but not for a nursery.

I really liked your work in this series ... until this one, everything is absolutely impractical, from the armchair without headrest, the absence of accessible place for basic products when changing diapers, the long curtains, the cork wall, the closet that does not open behind the chair, and much more. plus the art looks like it came from home depot in 2015, and the boucle fabric... well... just another hideous trend that will go out of style in a year or less.

My babies would’ve knocked/kicked all that decor over! 😂 It’s a beautiful space, but more emphasis was placed on decor in the long run than in the first 3 years of the baby’s life (thumbtacks, glass sign, low back chair ☹️). A glider chair with a higher back for support may have been best for those late nights and early mornings. Btw: I do LOVE this designer, but it would help for him to better understand what goes down in a nursery lol!

I feel like in the long term it will still be beautiful with the creamy walls, the pretty closet doors, the dimmer lights and even the wooden ceiling. But yes it will be difficult to keep the rug and chair clean and I would also be worried about the pins on the wall and that the hanging art would fall on the baby! Otherwise I like the effort made by the designer of seeing how a baby's room could look in 2021's aesthetics, which you could say, aren't very practical in themselves anyway!

Congratulation to your beautiful baby! All the best to you and a wonderful future. When you cried when your older daughter came into the room, it made me cry, too. A very emotional moment. @Erick: The room is beautiful, you picked some nice furniture and pretty details like the pulls for the closets etc. I love the wooden ceiling and the carpet and color of the curtains…actually everything! Great job, Erick! The only things I would change: no pictures above the chainging table, no little table next to the chainging table, no cork wall next to the crib and especially no thumb tacks. Maybe you could use a wallpaper with colorful images, for example flowers and butterflies and birds instead. Maybe you could pull the bed a little further away from the curtains for safety. Other than that it is very pretty and very instagramable, huge compliment. The little „mistakes“ are things you could not know since you never had a baby. How should you know? Some comments are too harsh and too critical and don‘t appreciate all of your hard work enough.

and it's not even comfy look how low the armrests are. for that price you could get a much more comfortable, cleanable, and good looking chair that would last well beyond infant years

Even though this is not my style I admire it ! It’s super beautiful!!!! And I can see people’s concerns about the frames and pins but you can always get rid of that concept or secure it. BEAUTIFUL!!! 😍😍

Where is the colour? The art wall? One of those recessed lights is pretty much above the crib - yet “it won’t disturb the baby”??? And a neon sigh above the crib… neon… 🫣 The change table is so crowded. Everyone has already pointed out the other glaringly obvious issues. The concept sounded exciting, the ceiling is stunning as are the closet doors but it ended up a bit snoozy & impractical.

She looks so much like Dua Lipa))) And actually I do like the room. Pins can be easily removed, and while waiting for the baby it's nice to have some pictures on this wall, and when the baby grows up - having an interactive wall, where they can do something is always a good thing, it boosts creativity. As for the colors, I've read some info on the colors for the baby and they say that pastel and calm colors work well, there don't have to be crazy cacophony. And the rocking chair is so cool.

A candle next to the changing station? She needs to move a lot to get the things she needs to change the baby? Sharp objects next to the baby’s bed? That wall doesn’t even look that great. This would be nice if it was functional, but it’s not. This room is more for the aesthetic than for the actual living baby. Colors are good, but the furniture is not.

Push pins on the cork wall by the crib are a BAD IDEA, they fall and WILL fall inside the crib. The drink table for the baby creams and lotions are a BAD IDEA, there is a space on the changing table designed for that purpose, drink table clutters the space. This designer has an issue with drapes, stingy..drapes need to be abundant not skinny, they look cheap. The texture on the chair were mommy feeds the baby is a BAD IDEA, cleaning spills on textured fabric is a nightmare. I liked the color palette used.

The only thing I don’t like essentially is the cork wall it’s kind of an eye sore . Everything is fine not AMAZING but it’s fine not on the standard I would expect from AD and a probably very expensive interior designer. I could do this with a quick trip to home good and IKEA 😂…

He casually mentioned a 20,25k budget at the top of the video. To see a cork wall?! And also not addressing the full needs for a baby-diaper pail, organizing caddy for diapers and wipes, tummy time mobile or padded rug, and so many other things Smh
