Wow! What a year we have had, I can’t believe how much we’ve accomplished in the last 12 months. We’ve gone from land life and virtually no sailing experience to moving aboard and sailing to Mexico in ONE YEAR!
We get loads of questions asking for advice about going from land life to boat life. While we do not feel experienced enough to give advice, we thought just simply sharing a bit more about our journey (some things that didn’t make it into our previous videos) may inspire and assist you in your journey.

What is your dream life? We’d love to hear all about it and we truly believe anything is possible. Sometimes the first step is writing it out and imagining it as reality, life has an amazing way of bringing your dreams to fruition.

Baxter loved you, and you loved him. Life brings hard decisions, and you had to go. You made the right decision for him....but I know how hard that is. We love our animals.

I found your channel and have been watching from the beginning your journey. I have not commented much, but I really wanted to start and let you know that I am really enjoying you journey. I want to say that Tommy and Bentley are the best behaved boys and so quiet to. You're a beautiful family and I am going to continue to watch until I catch up to where you are at today. What a great Q&A video! You guys have covered all the foundation pieces and explain them clearly and in a way that encourages without glossing over important factors. We are a little behind your timelines, but we are following almost all of the same steps that you have followed. We are going to connect with Totem as our coach as well - thanks for the recommendation. We really hope that we get to meet you in person and "buy Mick a hot dog" in some anchorage some day. Unrelated to your sailing journey: we wanted to thank you for the way that your amazing boys are included in the videos. They are gaining an amazing life experience on this journey and their growth and increasing maturity is apparent. We *LOVE* how they wander into the shot but don't interrupt almost as much as we love the fact that you both acknowledge and include them in the videos. You are teaching them respect by modeling respect for them - WELL DONE! We are so sorry to hear about your sweet fur baby. It's always hard to lose a family member, but thank you for having the courage to tell us what happened. You made the right choice, but we know that it is still very hard. What a year you have had. It sounds like you had a good plan and followed it, and looked to some of the best for advice. I'm glad I found out about your channel through Max. Max Shaw is one of the best as a person, sailing cruiser, and boat broker. You did well by finding him. I purchased Kiwi Ties through YSW before Max came on board, but I chat with him as much as possible, preparing for our next boat in a few years. The 4 of you are an insperation, and I hope I can convince my wife to sail to Mexico after we retire this year. We need to do a few seasons exploring the PNW and then head out. Fair winds and looking forward to seeing your adventure. Wow...you just mentioned me (Kiwi Ties) as I'm watching and typing...big smile 😃.

You always continue to impress me. My devotions this morning was from 1Thessalonians 5:16-18. “Be joyful always. Ever stop praying and be thankful in all circumstances.” Your willingness to learn, daring to dream, preparing wisely, and to share yourselves so intimately, will be used to encourage many. You have a great gift to communicate and the word that comes to my mind is “Humility”. Thanks for the “Joy” and the honesty. I’m sure you have your moments. (We all do) Keep on being a light.

Glad you enjoyed it Martin! Other than making home movies of our weekend adventures (using iPhones) we had no previous experience. It all started as a free way to store our family videos and share them with our friends and family. Super cool that we’ve had a bit of traction on the tube - we’ve met so many amazing people and it had only enhanced our experiences.

Thanks, for the back story. Did I miss it? What type of work, did you 2 do, on land. Prior to full time liveaboards. I'm wintering in tampa florida, I have a catalina 25.

Great question! We didn’t touch on that and we should have. Mick is a cabinet maker by trade and I was a school secretary… just regular blue collar folks ;)
