Workbench improvements just need to be close to the bench. You can build them outside or above (on small upper floor) to save interior space.

There are other weapons you can choose to build. The ones you choose depend on your personal preference. Don't be afraid to try new weapons or combinations of weapons. You do loose a percentage of your skills when you die but in the early game they are easily re-acquired. Skills are increased by doing the actions, eg: using the knife increases knife skill etc... .Workbench improvements need to be close enough to the workbench they are upgrading but not too close to other workbench improvements. When you have your hammer equipped and an improvement chosen there is a particle effect that will stretch to the workbench to help you know if it is still in range.

If you repair the core wood log pieces on the camp shelters before you deconstruct them, they will drop the maximum amount of logs. The same with fine wood furniture you find. Weathering can reduce your yield by half.

Unsure if that was the case in past iterations of Valheim, but currently that is no longer the case.

eikthyr can also knock down trees, which can speed up your wood gathering

Trolls are great for resource gathering, new to the game so I was far more worried about not getting squished but I didn’t mind all the resources scattered about when I finally killed the oversized Smurf
