A recounting of the creation of Kim's Convenience from it's genesis as a Fringe play to it's new format as a half hour comedy for Canada's national broadcast. I am an immigrant came from Korea, worked at Convinence stores in Toronto and Waterloo and now I am a branch manager at a car rental place. They should put me in that show 😂

There isn't just diversity in terms of ethnicity, but also in personality. They're not all super nerds or Tiger parents. Janet was top of her class, but also a successful arts (photography) student and her parents are really supportive of that despite the occasional clashes. Jung was a huge rebel in his youth and has a bad record, as well as not having finished his GED in time with his grade. Still, his mother loves him, and although his relationship with his father is rocky they can see eye to eye sometimes. It's a beautiful show that's brought tears of laughter, happiness, and sadness to my eyes.

Exactly, that's what makes me love this more than a lot of other "Asian" shows - it doesn't play on stereotypes and instead it feels more like actual people

@@marcusluna4026 yeah there are small differences. I'm american, but I can tell when someone's Canadian pretty well by how they pronounce their vowels. This show was filmed in Canada so I assume that they're all Canadian.

I'm a Black American woman and I think this show is awesome. I know I'm late but I can't stop watching it. I work with an Asian American social justice organization and I'm learning so much about Asian culture. Fabulous show!

They can't make this show fast enough. As a Canadian Asian born to immigrant parents, this show speaks to me on so many levels, but more importantly, there is just SO much heart in Kim's Convenience. Whoever greenlit this thing deserves some recognition!

I think it's really cool that the original Mr. and Mrs. Kim from the stage adaptation was kept for the tv adaptation. We can really get a feel for what the stage play was like too.

The crazy thing? I'm not Asian, and as an immigrant to Israel I so completely identified with this show. My dad--Russian Jew from Flatbush, and he is Appa, in every way. I was on the floor, WEEPING.

If you watched other interviews, they admitted that they couldn't speak korean. Im still shocked how they managed to do the Korean accent on the show especially Mr Kim.

Not Korean, Asian, or Canadian, but this is easily my favorite show. You all are same as Puerto Rican families...I love it! Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you for another season some day.

Not even Canadian (4th generation German immigrants to USA), but I love this show. Because family is family, people are really all the same in the end, we can all relate. Give me more diversity, I love to learn more about different cultures; but in learning that, I find how much more alike we are than we originally believe. THAT gives me hope for a future where we can just accept each other.

This show is a hidden gem. I think it works because it's acted so darn well, with real-life situations, and great writing. Plus, the scenes are very short and, best of all -- NO LAUGH TRACK! Often ending with just a glance or one word and usually, Janet storming off. OMG, I have never laughed so much, out loud, by myself, watching a TV show!

Watched the entire series on Netflix in the states here I've never laughed so hard. Once I completed the series I immediately searched the net to see if more seasons where coming much to my delight 2 more seasons are in the mix. I hope it keeps going this show is ahhh-mazing

I first watched this show on Netflix not knowing what to expect. After the 2nd episode, I fell in love with it. I love the whole chemistry of the show.

Watching Nayoung feels weird to me as a Korean. Her style and character reminds me more Japanese not Korean. But I loved all the other elements on show and finished watching every episode

I like they they make the show funny. So many shows these days, I'm not sure what they are even trying to do. But, Kim's Convenience is super reliable. You put this show on, and everyone in the family with laugh.

I love how all Asians (if not even more people, I'm speaking as someone from South Asia) are able to relate to the situations, not just Koreans! Appa and Amma are 100% my family. Wish I had a cool brother though.

jan8919 My dad grew up in San Francisco and said this show was a lot like the lives of his immigrant friends. Toronto and SF have a lot of similarities as big immigrant cities.

This show was just a great show. So funny. And such a relief from all the violence. I can't believe they don't have these accents in real life!!!! OMG. Amaaaaaaazing actors. I looooved this show. I am jewish and my best friends growing up were Korean. Now I live in Fort Lee which is all Korean. I literally had tears in my eyes after finishing 5 seasons and watching interviews with the actors. It's one of my all time favorite shows. Such great acting all around.

i'm not korean but a lot of the show felt super relatable to me as an asian-american growing up in the west. i'm so happy my cousin put me on it!! she and her older brother (who put her on it lol) finds it relatable too hahah. so happy its on netflix. better late than never. but i really do love appa and umma's show accents, this wall break is hitting hard 😭

This show has been in my recommended for weeks. Finally took a chance on it yesterday and I'm on season 2 episode 13! I love the characters so much! It's very cross cultural and I love getting a peak into Korean-Canadian life being in America. Also, I think Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Appa) would make a great Uncle Iroh if they're are any ATLA fans. Much love to everyone!

kim's convenience reminds me so much of In The Hights. makes sense to me that it started out as a play. I remember seeing an "asian parody" of the opening song from In The Heights and it had similar vibes to this show. really glad there's more coverage of the immigrant experience in media lately......there shd be even more. I'm learning a lot.

Thank you thank you thank you for this wonderful series! No, I am not Korean... But man I feel like this show is exactly my life... How my family acts and everything. Somehow, I overlooked this show for quite a bit... Really really glad I found it and I'm looking forward to Watching season 5 and 6. ( I read an article today... Apparently Netflix have not only confirmed for Season 5 but also season 6 as well!). I went on a Watching binge... And watched All 4 seasons in 3 days..Probably would have been done sooner..but life needs like showering and eating and sleep...Got in my way.🤣🤣🤣
