Being black and growing up in urban America is tricky, because in a lot of our communities we see and understand how shit ain’t right and we spend most of our young lives trying to get away from and separate ourselves from it. But when we are able to actually crossover and be in those rooms and meetings with generation changing opportunities, we tend to have a need to cling onto the things that we feel makes our black experience authentic. It’s ALL apart of us, the success, the streets, the want for real change. But we feel to be seen and heard we need this edge.

I met Terry back in 2021 in my condo complex where I live. This was a couple of months before all of that stuff went down. He was cool cat. We had a brief conversation and he was chill. Just sad what happened. He was acquitted of murder, but ended up charged with battery. I hope he gets pass this, everybody loves a comeback.

Me and TK have alot in common. I grew up playing basketball and skateboarding around the way too. It’s funny how n*ggas will ostracize an activity and say “Thats white people shit…” but growing up those same kids wanted to be skateboarders TOO. They just never got good at it, so they wanted to make you feel like you were less than authentic because you were good at something DIFFERENT. TK is such a gifted leader, natural talent and smart dude. I wish his story had turned out differently 🤦🏽‍♂️

If you took the average dude who has never rode a skateboard, they can’t even push off, let alone even BEGIN to understand the mechanics of how a trick works. Nah. SOMEBODY was skating on the “low” Me personally, I never gave a shit. I got my first skateboard when I was 8-9 for Xmas just like the other kids. But unlike them I just never stopped. I rode, fell, got back up, tried again, repeat, got good. I’d ride my bike to the courts and had my skateboard in a board bag and ride between pick ups. I’d get the “Damn n*gga, you still riding skateboards?… 🤔 Do a kickflip” We didn’t even have skateparks around the way. We were in the streets. And I was known in the streets by my peers. I was the rapping skater waaay before Wayne. But skating was my thing. My first love. It was my outlet. Not a fuck was given about what people thought because that was the exact reason I skated, because my mentality/mantra as a youth was “FUCK Y’ALL… ALLA’ YALL” 💯

But once they are triggered, they usually can't control their emotions, which is exactly why TK went the route he did.
