My son is a high school teacher and I was astonished to find out just how little teachers are paid. On top of his low pay he often has to purchase supplies out of his own pocket to be able to have the minimum he needs in order to be able to teach his classes. He also has to be at school at least 30 minutes before class begins and rarely gets to leave for 2-3 hours after school is over. Then he often (virtually every day) has to spend time at home doing work, such as grading and his planning. We sat down and figured it out, with everything he has to do (forget the out of pocket money he spends) and the hours he basically donates, he makes about $12/hour. He actually makes more money on his part-time job as a bartender annually than as a teacher. In my opinion that’s shameful.

Before people start blaming this woman for her choices, let's take a step back and point the finger at our corrupt system that pays teachers barely livable wages.

There’s a reason why OnlyFans is so successful. That’s a bigger question than this woman’s morals.

Im retiring after being in education for 37 years. I was a teacher, a counselor and a principal. I left administration this year to go back to the classroom because I could not stand the bullshit anymore. The bullshit is so deep, and wide it would take a novel to describe. I went back to teaching because I thought I could block it out. WRONG !!! I watch these poor classroom teachers dealing with all the same shit I tried to help stop.... but I could not stand seeing it everyday. The desperation these teachers face. The misappropriation of funds, the ridiculous class size.... And so on... Education is broken at the higest levels. It starts with the Federal Government down to the local school boards. It is sad. The system breaks those who care, and rewards the lazy, ignorant and complacent.

I don’t care how much money she makes, or how ‘happy’ her marriage is. This will take a toll on her mental health, her kids and her marriage down the line. Anyone who thinks not is kidding themselves.

Teacher here, be enraged that we can’t make a living and we pay HUNDREDS out of pocket for children to have the basics. The teacher shortage is REAL, Las Vegas alone needs to fill 1400 positions by this upcoming school year and the starting salary is 54k, they consider that “competitive pay”. That’s not a joke either. We are leaving this profession QUICKLY. The education system is failing us teachers and children. Something has got to change fast.

I was a former career teacher ready to "save the world" back in the mid-seventies. My first teaching job was in a poor farming community in Michigan. Back then there were no problems with parents or classroom discipline-the salary was manageable at the time but...BUT I was shocked (due to my naivety) how illiterate and shallow the school board members were. In my 6th grade class my science text books were over 15 years old along with a minimum budget for class supplies ; however, there was no problem for the school board member to financially spend the school budget on a new football field or bleachers for the gym. (They were all old high school jocks btw that never left their community.) After I received my masters, I went overseas to teach at accredited international schools, (five all together during those forty years). The school board members were all well-educated (many fathers and mothers working for the UN, embassies, international companies), good salary and benefits, great parental support and disciplined students with a mix of nationalities. I always feel sad seeing how American teachers are not valued and how it is no longer a rewarding profession. No one can condemn this young lady for wanting to have a better life and I think some day she can go back to teaching.

What a wonderful, eloquent, and intelligent young lady! I genuinely enjoyed every moment of her candid responses. The only part saddening me is thinking of all of the young students' lives she could have touched. When she spoke about her fondness of Shakespeare, and how she was in the midst of teaching a unit on his works when she was dismissed, I saw the passion she still has for her original profession. With her intellect and good sense I'm confident she will be alright and raise a good person out of her young son.

After 2020, my DIL, a teacher, realized that she didn't want to go back to work after working from home. She quit her job and now babysits for her former coworkers making about the same as what she did as a teacher and gets to stay at home with her own kids. That is sad that that the pay isn't even worth it.

It's astonishing how having a job that requires an education pays less than selling pictures online. It saddens me that women are viewed in such a way that this is even posible. Last night I was talking to a preschool teacher who said her job required her to have a BS in childhood development but she makes significantly less than me, who never went to college. I'm a chef and I think I'm pretty good, but idk if I should be making twice as much as a preschool teacher. I'm not sure why people choose to teach nowadays.

There is a homeless man I met at the Nashville psychiatric hospital who was there for depression and temporary housing, and he was in a wheelchair due to police brutality. He didn’t have insurance and cannot afford physical therapy. He said he had a lot more stories having to do with his homelessness and police brutality, but he was discharged before we could speak. I got his phone number and hope to film something like this and help him raise money for physical therapy so he can walk again. Thank you for the inspiration.

Part of being a teacher is being a role model. Just like athletes and police officers, we hold teachers to a higher standard. When either do something not considered role model behavior they are repremanded. There are ethical standards that teachers are required to uphold. It sounds more like she's trying to justify her own unique situation instead of understanding how parents feel. The same way she feels when people stop her at wal mart with her children is similar to how these parents feel about a teacher doing only fans. Children go to school to learn , and are at an age where their hormones are going crazy. We want our children getting an education, not fantasizing about their teachers all day.
