@@Bernie8330 well not really. I think you're being too harsh. I was born in Italy so I've always been passionate about football. I started to watch cricket thanks to IPL. The short format (only 3 hours) makes it easy to watch it. Then I started to watch ODIs. I still dont like Test cricket (but I'm trying to watch it). The thing is: t20 was needed to increase the popularity of cricket outside the older generation or die hard fans. How can you convince me to watch a 5-day long match when most probably the result is going to be a draw??
@Bernie83302 жыл бұрын
@@Harjitsingh-iw8cn Back when I started watching cricket in the 1980s, a draw was a 50% possibility from the start of most test matches, but that is much lower now. My favourite aspect of Sir Viv's batting is that he attacked all types of deliveries and aimed to score 4s / 6s off all of them. Defence / leaving and taking risky singles to rotate the strike were never part of his game and he never hesitated while playing his shots. Though he played his shots late after allowing the ball to fully come onto him - he was so confident and self-assured while smashing the opposition's bowling to all parts of the ground. Sir Viv was 'once-in-a-lifetime' batsman and the period that he played cricket in can well be called 'The Vivian Richards Era'.

@Darren Gouch Being an Indian I agree with you. Kohli is great but he has faced weaker bowlers, batted on flatter wickets, in smaller grounds with helmet and with rules and regulations favouring batsmen more than bowlers. So ya, he is no match for all time greats like Sir Viv. This guy made brutal hitting look elegant. Modern batsmen cannot play a forward defence against a spinner without their heads falling over and lunging on to the ball.

I remember watching the ‘Master Blaster’ every second summer in Australia. He was a force of nature. One thing that isn’t apparent about Viv on these highlights videos, because he’s thrashing the ball everywhere and it’s a ODI, is that I recall him never blocking - not even in test matches and not even against spin. It was always a push. Obviously he didn’t score off every ball but he always looked to score and no bowler could stop him - not even Lillee. If Viv cared about averages and didn’t get bored after securing a sizeable lead for his team, his test average would be the second highest ever. Only Sachin in my lifetime has had the same presence when he walked out to bat as Viv but Viv is my number 4 in an all time batting line up edging out the little master.
